Here's a good one! I purchased a flexible replacement fuel line. As you can see from the picture, it's 'pinched'. During a drive today, I realized that when the car ran like crap, it was due to fuel starvation.

Is there a better fuel line I can buy that will not do this?

Is that the line that comes out of the filter and goes up to the carbs or to the pump? If so, you may turn the banjo fitting on the filter housing and either trim the fuel hose, or add a new length of fuel hose to reach whatever part it goes to.

The fuel pump and filter set-up should look like this on a carb 308 (tank to filter, filter to pump, pump to carbs). Nothing should protrude past the lower edge of the chassis frame:

IME there really isn't a "different" fuel hose available with such radically better anti-kinking properties that it can make up for a poor routing situation.

What you need is good routing and hand-fitting the lengths -- it's an extremely tight area and Peter's very tidy installation hides the true difficulty (e.g., the hose from the tank to the filter inlet has to have a very precise length to follow that tight curved path and keep the cross-section open). Additionally, the later cars have a pressure regulator so that adds to the hose mess.

If you've got a non-stock pump, the fittings used may not be ideal and you'll need to try to reoptimize things -- but whatever you do follow Pete's advice: "Nothing should protrude past the lower edge of the chassis frame".

I turned the 90 degree bottom fitting a quarter turn towards the filter and it seemed to straighten out the kink that was in the line. I still feel I should have a more robust, braided type fuel line that can be a bit shorter.
