I found some pictures from Lime Rock park of this car and am curious about its history and current owner. Is anyone here familiar with the car?? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I never watched older F1, but aren't those the old McLaren colors? Mid to late 80s maybe...I'm just making stuff up now.
It's a McLaren M23/76. More info can be found here: http://www.***************.com/frame.php?file=car.php&carnum=1769
F1 trivia time - thread posted by 'Brett' The M23 is perhaps the only F1 car ever raced in F1 by a 'Brett' - Brett Lunger
Yes, Emerson Fittipaldi also won the '74 World Championship in an M23 also under Marlboro sponsorship. The M23 was a very successful racing car and won races in the hands of Emerson, Hunt, Mass, Revson and was raced by Hulme, Scheckter, Lunger, Stommelen and a few others that I have probably forgotten! McLaren in those days was run by Teddy Mayer and Tyler Alexander.
The reason that I ask is that my grandfather owned that car for many years. He flew to england and bought her and it was shipped back to Ct via 747. He died from cancer in 1995 and a substantial race car collection was disbursed by his new wife (not my grandmother) and we were unsure of the whereabouts of some of the cars. He also owned a Lola T-70, Brabham bt-40 and a Ferrari Daytona as well as some more common street exotics. All of his cars were maintained by a gentleman by the name of Pete Magnuson. My grandfather's name was Doc Hartley and he had a Tool and die in Thomaston Ct as well as a Drawn Metal Tube company. I have vowed to attempt to obtain at least on of his former cars since at the time I was in Law school (broke) I was unable. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would mean a great deal to me. Brett
That car, or one that looks strikingly like it (same livery and duct/bodywork) was stored at what has become my shop when I was about 3. I've got pictures of me climbing all over it.
That car, as liveried, is actually the car of Hunt's teammate, Jochen Mass. One of the all-time great cars.
Get in touch with Allen Brown who runs this website: http://www.oldracingcars.com/type.asp?TypeID=M23 He'll be able to tell you which one is in your photo and which one your grandfather owned. Paul M
