Can anyone help me identify the purpose of this system in the front left corner under the bonnet? Also, what is the green connector on the right hand side where the wires appear to have been joined together. Is that standard or has someone 'fixed' something? Thanks. Image Unavailable, Please Login
A/C dryer system See the part #11 on the diagram. https://ferrparts.com/diagrams/mondial-3-0-qv-1984/heating-system-122#011
It's probably not that they've "fixed" something by joining those wires together, but that they've used a (non-stock) dryer with two ports designed for mounting a high pressure switch and a (separate) low pressure switch (so they needed to mount something there, where the green gizmo is, just to block the 2nd port); whereas, most later F use a single, combination high-low pressure switch so only need one port on the dryer. What year, version, model F is this?
Still could be as Steve said. A new drier or a new switch that is a combination HI/Low switch. Or it was a bad repair to eliminate a bad switch from the circuit.
I'll believe that as I have some evidence that the i-2V cars still had separate high and low pressure switches (and maybe an early Mondial QV still did, too); whereas, the Mondial QV wiring diagrams show they went to the single combination high-low pressure switch. Consequently, I'll go with the OP's car has either: 1. Been updated to the single combination high-low pressure switch (so only needs the low pressure switch present to block the port), or 2. The low pressure switch is not working so only has the high pressure switch still working, or the low pressure switch was removed from the wiring to force the compressor clutch to engage even without any refrigerant present (I'd bet this might be likely ).
