I need a garage lift since I find that my car collection keeps growing and have little space for more. I was in the market for a four post lift and have seen previous threads leading me to purchase a backyard buddy.

The thing is I am not very handy nor do I have the time to set it up myself. I live in the Miami area and was wondering if anyone around here has purchased and installed a backyard buddy and/or if you know of a company that can come to my house to install the lift in Miami.

    Thanks!

You can try Greg Smith Equipment Sales (305-722-3800).They have an office/warehouse outside of Miami and sell lifts. They also have installation contractors. I just installed one of their Atlas 408-SL 4 posters. It took 2 of us about 7 hours without the aid of an engine hoist. If we had a hoist, it would have saved us about 2 hours. This is the 4th and hopefully, my last installation. I installed a Backyard Buddy awhile ago at a friend' home. Not much difference. Good luck.

I have several lifts....set them up with some friends.....

Backyard Buddy makes a nice lift, but was about twice the cost of what I bought.

Amazing! I will call him later today. Do you like the Atlas? I will have to do some research on it. I have not looked into it. I called Backyard Buddy and they have a back order and the wait is around 8-12 weeks which is a little longer than I wanted to wait for a lift lol.

Greg Smith is the best deal in town. Go to the show room and order in person.

Yes, I like the Atlas 408-SL. It's heavier than the usual hobby- based lifts and it give you the flexibility to have the pump at any corner. It also have adjustable stops - important if you have any ceiling height limitations. I would recommend the aluminum ramps as the steel ramps are very heavy. Also, if you are not sure exactly where you will ultimately place the lift, get the caster kit. My opinion, it's the next best thing to the Backyard Buddy.

I have ordered 4 lifts from Best Buy Equipment over the past year and had them installed. The installation team they sent was fantastic. contact me via PM and I will give you the details. I am really happy. I could have never installed them as quickly or efficiently as they did. They have the lifts in stock here in Florida and I never had to wait more than a week to get them installed.

One of the main issues with purchasing a lift is the delivery. Unless you have a forklift truck and a loading dock (which most people do not have), then you will need to make special arrangements for delivery. The last lift I purchased was delivered by a rollback truck. I already had heavy duty rollers which we placed under the shipment, then rolled the lift off the truck and into my garage. Another option I did was to pick up the lift from the manufacturer with a car trailer, then remove the lift from the car trailer using a engine crane. The lift comes bundled and weights about 2000 lbs. During the assembly, I used 2 floor jacks and 4 jack stands to get everything in place and aligned.

Perhaps the best option is to pay for installers and have them deliver the lift. I know my back would have preferred this last option.

That is what I did. Ordered a PROKAR from Affordable in Orlando with delivery and installation arranged.

I am back looking for a lift for my home in Weston. The issue (I think) is that it only has a 9'-5" floor to ceiling height and that Does NOT including the garage door or garage door opener. What cars did you all put on your lift and what was your ceiling height. I think my issue is the height of the cars I am looking to have on and below the lifts will not fit.

    Height of Cars
    47.20 inches = car 1 (top)
    54.70 inches = car 2

I would consider modifying the trusses, but do not that that is feasible

    thoughts / photo's suggestions

I tried to get someone to raise the trusses or modify them on my house and no one would touch the job I raised my garage door track by adding 12 inches to the top linear track just before the curve and I raised my garage door opener up as well. Now the garage door is about 6 inches from the ceiling and my 328 fits nicely under it when the garage door is up. The lift will fit a car (sedan type) under it with about 6-8 inches of space above the lower car, but I can't raise the lift high enough to get a SUV under it. My garage ceiling is a few inches shy of 10 ft.

I think the key is 10' and almost any cars will fit.

I have only 105" floor to ceiling. The two cars are 46" and 48", so it works. 4 post Prokar lift.

Who did your install from Affordable, Joe? We use them for all of our stuff, and maintain a few of the vehicles. If its the same company I'm thinking of.

My garage ceiling is 102" high. First, I moved the garage door up against the ceiling . Then, I had a truss engineer redesign the garage trusses to put a 2' tray ceiling above the lift. That gave me enough headroom to my cars. The truss engineer and construction costs came under $4k.

Robert, you should be ok with the 9'.5" floor ceiling height its about the same as mine (115"). our cars heights are just about the same too Aston Martin on the bottom and NSX on top and I have 6" to spare. Get a Liftmaster 3000 which moves the door opener to the side to provide more clearance, you'll need to do a high lift modification with your garage door to maximize your ceiling height. If your garage is long enough position the lift so that the top car rear or front end clears the edge of the garage door when opened. I used the BendPak HD-9ST. Hope this helps.
