I want to create a spicy root beer marinade/sauce for ribs, followed by a rub.

I've looked at various recipes online and want to create my own, so I was hoping I could get some guidance from the experienced smokers here.

So far the ingredients I have in mind for the marinade:

    Root Beer
    Honey Bourbon
    apple cider vinegar
    brown sugar
    root beer extract
    bay leaf (just for experimentation)
    habanero pepper sauce
    Worcestershire
half the juice of a lemon and zest

    For the dry rub:

    ancho chile powder
    onion powder
    garlic powder
    course ground black pepper
    mustard powder
    white sugar
    brown sugar
    crushed red pepper
    smoked paprika
chinese 5-spice (to play off the root beer)

    Critique and tear it apart.

I'm also debating whether to turn the marinade into a bbq sauce. Either use the marinade to spray the ribs while on the smoker, or use bbq sauce to baste the ribs.
