Help me decide please

Proud owner of a 2023 812 GTS and 2017 488 Spider here with a Purosangue on waitlist.

While I love my 488 Spider, which was my first Fcar that I got in 2019, I am ready to upgrade. Presently, I have a great relationship with my local dealer (Ferrari Las Vegas) but like many other dealers, their order books are closed so I am looking at preowned options again.

The market seems still very over priced for certain models. I am looking a three different possibilities right now and would like some advice on which way to go, undecided at this point, maybe will just keep my 488 Spider for now in the end.

Option 1: 2020 488 Pista Spider (https://preowned.ferrari.com/en-US/a/north-america/used-ferrari/usa/ferrari-of-san-antonio/488-pista-spider/ZFF91HMA2L0252408-1710941591706) I absolutely love this launch spec. Pros: to me, it’s still my favorite mid engine model, with balance of looks, performance, and utility.
Cons: its an older model, its very overpriced, not sure if it will continue to hold value (even though investment is not my goal at all but I do like to make a smarter purchase when possible lol)

Option 2: 2023 SF90 Spider (https://preowned.ferrari.com/en-US/a/north-america/used-ferrari/usa/ferrari-of-san-antonio/sf90-spider/ZFF96NMA4P0289613-1710941595928). I really like this spec.
Pros: better optioned and more car than Pista Spider, three years newer too, more premium and markup much more reasonable
Cons: ridiculously small frunk makes utility an issue, SF90 spider looks good in certain angles, a bit Camaro-ish in others (to me), not a special or limited model so depreciation will be steep

Option 3: 2024 296 GTS (https://preowned.ferrari.com/en-US/a/north-america/used-ferrari/usa/ferrari-of-central-new-jersey/296-gts/ZFF01SMA9P0293307-1709638423098). I like this spec with one reservation (no premium Hi-Fi upgrade?!?)
Pros: future proof as it is newest model, best Ferrari technology, design will grow on me in time, stupidly fast
Cons: looks very plain from the front in white (to me), markup is significant, depreciation will be steep, less premium than other two options, V6, no premium hi-fi (this is a problem for me)

I appreciate any thoughts and suggestions on this matter. At the moment, I am leaning on keeping my 488 Spider (which is highly spec’ed) because none of the three options are really hitting the sweet spot, which is to me a mix of desirability, acceptable pricing markup, and appropriate specs, to make it worth the hassle of moving forward. May just wait and see what comes available.

If I was spending your $$ I would go with option 2. If you decide to go this way speak to Nereyda in San Antonio. I've spoken to her a few times about the Grigio 296 GTB.

I would suggest you simply weigh everything and make your own decision. Why let someone on here talk you into a choice. You need to figure out what you want, not what someone else wants for you. They don't even know you.

 

When I buy a used Fcar, I wait until I find a car which has all specs I want and none that bother me. And I do not listen to advice of anyone other than my wife.

 

On Option 3: Audiophiles on this forum say that the audio upgrade is not worth the money. For less,you can do much better at a local good stereo shop or with parts kits that are sold by forum members.

 

I agree with RS - unless you're planning to show this as a classiche some day... buy the car and then fix the sound system - easiest thing above to do and "future proofs" you for several years longer.

 

My vote is for option 2 if you are looking for driving experience, 1 if you are considering any kind of investment. I'm not sure how the 296's will age to be honest, or how well received they will be by Ferrarista long term, and quite frankly, they do nothing for me...the Pista is beautiful, and with ~3500 supposedly produced is probably the rarest of the list so it may hold it's value better than the other 2, BUT you already have had a 488, so it may not be the upgrade you are looking ..but the SF90 just seems like an engineering masterpiece.

 

i have driven all of these, but owned none of them.
i am biased tho since i would pick the one with the least amount of tech that can go bad....
option 1.

the sf90 resale prices are tanking like keys out of a lear jet.
the 296gtb is a great car, but just not as soul stirring as the pista.

however, if you really wanted to spend wisely, you would get a speciale

I’m on my 3rd Speciale and it is a keeper for me… last raw, visceral NA engineering masterpiece from Ferrari. Values appreciated and will maintain or continue to do so.
Pista platform I drove and prefer Speciale. Nice design. Lacks sound. Values maintaining.
I have SF90S TM status 90 coming but don’t know if it will be a keeper. Values dropping.
296 I did the Corso Pilota in and it was ok, maybe I expected more on track but it wasn’t the AF version (vs CP in Italy). Values will drop.

Or a classic. The F-SUV will suffice for daily driving.

(not sure what prices are in america) but 458 spec if possible

if the 488 is too slow for you atm then go 296, will be faster on track too by a bit

 

Pista all day - that car could be a long-term keeper and you'll never have to worry about the battery tech aging out. Also, that Bianco Italia/Blu spec is drop-dead gorgeous

296 spec is sick!! That would be my choice. Modern future proof can always upgrade later.

Option #2 but you nailed it with the late 90’s Camaro comment.

 

That Pista is the sexiest of them all by a mile. Especially if you put some carbon wheels on it. Also likely to be best value (even though it does seem to be very high priced — like 2021 priced) with least depreciation. Perhaps they’ll negotiate heavily? Either way, Option #1 without hesitation for me.

Update: I pulled the trigger on a 2020 Pista (not spider) Rosso Corsa with twin Argento Nurburgring and center Blu Sterling racing stripe! Much reasonable asking price of $569k compared to Pista Spiders. 3,750 miles so not bad. All carbon options interior and exterior, Nero interior with red stripe. Can’t wait to get it next week!
