After waiting almost two long years, and watching and learning so much from you guys about these cars, I'm finally in a position to buy.
The only problem is I can't find a CAR !! I have looked at a few, and have let a few slip away becuase I didn't act fast enough. But now I've hit a big dought. I really would like to find one by Christmas, I have two weeks off during the holidays to travel and look at prospects. So I have decided to enlist the help of the people of Ferrarichat (if you guys don't have your thumb on the pulse of the Ferrari world, nobody does !) I hope that this is ok Rob, if not just delete this and PM me.

I'm willing to pay a finders fee (a small one, $200.00) to anyone who helps me locate a car that I end up purchasing. (fee will only be paid upon my purschasing the car). Just PM me info.

    Here's what I'm looking for,

a 308 GTS (red/tan or creme) (I prefer a QV, but will look at good 2v's also)
    or
an early model 86 or 87, 328. (same color combos)

ok boys lets find that car !!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks in Advance !!!

    John Perry

"DuPont Registry of Fine Automobiles" Monthly Magazine. Their Christmas Edition is out right now. Available in any Magazine Section at any Store. They are always full of nice Cars. Different Sections, including just a "Ferrari" section.(Or check out their website at: www.dupontregistry.com)I just checked their site, and they have 17 different 308's to choose from. Most are Red,but not all. And,it's looking like asking prices of 308's are starting to creep up a little....

Lake Forest Sportscars in Lake Bluff,IL. (about 1/2 Hour North of Chicago. Chicago isn't all too far from Alabama, really. Just run up I-55 or I-57 Has a nice looking 1981 Red/tan 308GTSi For Sale right now. Check out their Website at:www.lfsc.com. I bought my '81 Red/Tan 308GTSi from them 4 Years ago. Never had a Problem with the car at all. They are a Very Reputable,Authorized Ferrari Dealer. And,the Family that owns it has been in the Auto Business for a very long time.

Nothing wrong with a 2v Car at all. A Quatrovalvole is only,I believe 20 HP. more,or less.....PLUS....twice as many Valves,Retainers,Etc...to potentially go out on you. Thats how I look at it....:)

    Or,if you want a Black/Red 1979 (carbed) 308GTSi. Check out: www.italianauto.com He has one.

Good Luck on your Search, and hope I was able to help you out. (And,if you do end up getting a Car that I referred you to. No need for a Finders Fee...Just give it to the Salvation Army,or something...:) )

How about the Car at Lake Forest? That one looks pretty good. And,I can just about guarantee that if you ask anyone about them, you will get nothing but good replies.

A funny story....I almost bought a Ferrari on a few different occassions, before I actually did. At first,it was,I guess,a good thing. As,I got Divorced in 1998 and had to sell 2 of the 3 Corvettes that I had...and her Attorney was trying his best to take that last one from me,too. But,He was unsuccessful.

Then,I looked at a couple around the Country as I travelled. And one locally. Bad Cars. So,as much as I wanted a Ferrari, had been able to keep my head, and not jump into anything.

I had been checking Hemmings Motor News, and was willing to Travel anywhere in the Country for the right Car. My Wife,(#2) thought I was crazy....I was....:) This was in December of 2000.

Then....I got my Christmas issue of DuPont Registry. (I am a long time subscriber). I saw an ad for Lake Forest Sportscars in there. Normally, they don't advertise in DuPont. Why? I don't know. But,they have a rock solid reputation, and I guess that word of mouth business is enough for them. I was not yet familiar with LFSC.

I live close to Continental Autosports, the other Authorized Ferrari Dealer in the Chicago Area. I called them and asked if they had any 308's. They said that they did not.

I saw the ad for LFSC,and they had 2-308's available. An '81 Red/Tan with 14K miles, and fresh Sevice. And,another '81 that was Black/Crema. I called them, and they still had both cars. I went up there, and ended up buying the Red one.(It was a tough Choice, though. That Black one was really nice. But...I had to have a RED Ferrari...:) )

So,my point is that you will definitely find the right car. I was lucky, that I ended up finding mine practically in my own back yard. I guess that it was...FINALLY!...meant to be.....:) But,definitely check them out.

I really want to go with a QV, but I saved the info.

I have waited almost three years, I just don't wanna settle.

    Plus it's a bit pricey for a 2v.

    keep looking though !!
    Thanks.........

Yeah. I noticed that the prices of 308's are going up a bit. Especially the QV cars.

I have a feeling that nice 308's are the next to start going up,after,(and like) the 246 Dino's did.....Time to start stocking up....:)

I found my 328 from the mag, Dupont Registry (Ferrari of Long Island- Demetrio Merlino). Ferrari Market Letter is good to search too. Call Martin at Cavalino Motors (305) 867-7740 & ask if he can find you what you want. Once you get on the emailing list of Ferrari dealerships you see what is new on the market too. Call or email untill you talk to someone who will help you find your dream car. Sometimes its hard to get them to take you seriously. Keep trying.

One of our Fchat bros., Jim aka "LopeAlong" (he is based in St. Louis), maybe selling his red '83 308 (targa) QV. Go to the Midwest (MO) section and drop him a private mail. He's a nice guy and I've seen his 308. Good luck.

My search took about 2 years as well. Finaly pulled the trigger in july of this year. I found an 85 QV with 26,000 miles. My search mostly included Ebay,Hemmings motor news and Dupont Registry. Found the car in dupont registry. I paid 39k for it. That included shipping the car to california and the 30k service. The car was about a 7 or 8 when I got it. Since then I replaced small parts, and have been happy with the car.
I felt that the last yr of 308 production was going to be the best year to purchase. Also that the Red/Tan combination was the most desireable.

Good luck with the search, also feel free to ask any questions about the experience.
