For reasons that I don't want to go into, I may be in the market for an RV. So, talk to me. I know that a lot of you racer types have done this or done that. So should I buy a motor home, an Airstream, a toy hauler, or a 5th wheel? I wait with baited breath. Dale
What are you going to do with it ? How often are you going to use it ? What kind of a tow vehicle do you have/will you buy ? You buy a toy hauler if you are going cycling, 4-wheeling, or undertaking any kind of hobby that you will need to transport 'big' things, like R/C aircraft. You buy a 38' 5th wheel or Tag if you have a BIG TV (Tow Vehicle:truck) to use or can afford a BIG one. 5th wheels are a billion times easier to drive - try driving a tag trailer when semi's blow by you..... You buy a diesel pusher MH if you want to spend a bit, AND have a place to park it AND have a dinghy (small car) to pull behind it. I was in the market about 2 years ago, I had settled on a used 33' Cardinal 5th wheel, until I was out-voted by the wife (in our house she gets 2 votes for everything, I get 1), but I also looked at 30-footers. What I wanted I could get for $10,000 +/-, but I was looking at pre-owned 4 yr old units.
Well, it is complicated. What got me started down this road is that I'm currently a visiting professor at an university that is about 140 miles from here, and I can't stand hotel rooms. Also, this summer, I'm planning on starting construction on a lake house. S-o-o-o, my first thought was to get an Airsteam. Then I heard that 5th wheel trailers pull better. Then I got to thinking that I could use a motor home to pull a race car someday when I finally start having some free time. So is this just a slippery slope? How about this -- For those of you who haul around race cars, what do you use? Do you buy a big motor home and pull a trailer? Or do you use a 5th wheel and crash in motels? Dale
Airstreams are uber trendy these days. They kit them out with modern interiors these days. Pas de fromage.
