Help me price a red/tan '95 6-speed spider with 46K miles

40-45k.

Totally a crap shoot without pics or other questions answered but the major, top and mileage put me at that number.

 

My range is broader but I'd say $40-50k accounting for ~$8000 toward a major. Sounds like a nice car.

I don't think that car would last very long on the market at $50k...even a $60k asking price would price it below most others on market.

Not sure where you guys are getting your numbers from.

 

Use the top end of my number, get a quality major done, get a new top and without a more detailed examination you are into a 42k mile spider for 55k give or take.

 

40K if it can pass a leak-down with a maximum of 10% difference in pressure cylinder to cylinder.

 

High $50s-$60k. It also depends on if you want it sold within a day, or a few weeks. I'm not sure that I agree with the premise that pricing is determined by an avg price to a standard, minus the $ amount for work/parts a buyer would want to put into it to bring it to a standard, especially not when factored with shop rates. If that were the case, there would be cars out there where the buyer would be paid to take the car off of a seller's hands. It hasn't worked that way on any of the cars that I've bought and sold. Just as $ put into a car when selling isn't recouped 1:1, $ a car needs when buying isn't discounted 1:1, and the cheapest car you'll buy is the one with the work already put into it.

I agree with you. In this case the buyer will have hard costs of approx.8-10K just to have a fresh major and a correct top. Those two things are up front and known.

If the seller were take care of them, I would adjust my estimate accordingly but as a buyer, I would discount them dollar for dollar.

Its all just talk, the market will decide.

Yes, I think the community noted that one as appearing to be a particularly good (underpriced) deal (steal?), under agreement in a day, with multiple parties interested. Some even speculating that it may have sold for over asking. I saw it shortly after it posted, and if I had the cash sitting around looking for something to do, and knew that the wife wouldn't take to wielding cookware after recently picking up another one, I would have jumped at it.

 

I have a black one of these and a red one. Wouldn't think of taking less than 80K for either. One has 41K the other somewhere in the high 60K mile range.

Of course they are not for sale.

I'd guess you could get high $40ks, maybe to low $50ks without doing the major or fixing the canvas.

It sold within the asking price. Randy and I had a deal in under 12 hours and after Paypal wouldn't let me send $XX,000, I wired the deposit so that Randy could get the paintwork done.

This one is very similar. Mine doesn't have a top motor, and while the canvas top is perfect it's the seat bolsters that are worn. Someone recommended Fernando as well for the seats. I might do it at the end of the summer once the worst of the heat is past - no sense in putting new ones in yet to get scorched. Also some dash and airbag cover pull, again I'll wait for October to address those.

To get it ready for NV registration it needed cats again, new O2 sensors and a cat ECU. I mentioned elsewhere about the coolant hose rupture, and I redid them all with the silicone Dave Helms kit; also the throttle cable was frayed and there were a few other minor "while you're in there" things. All in all, about $7k spent in the first two months taking me a little over $50k into it. [I've made up for that by driving it 3,800 miles already.]

And I would do it over again without hesitation!

No way this is a $60k car with that many miles unless the market has gone crazy since I bought and sold a perfect <20k red/tan spider last summer. Just because they're listed at some of the prices you see doesn't mean they're selling. My car was nearly flawless and I had about 2 calls in 2 months and only one serious buyer.

For a comparison I paid $54 about this time last year for an almost perfect 19k mile car that needed a major plus new headers. That car looked and felt brand new.

 

Last summer was a long time ago...

 

I don't think the market has changed that much. I've been looking for a 360 spider but keep my eyes on the 355s. ASKING price for both of these cars is $79k and the six speed only has 12k miles. That's not too far off of where I sold end of last summer.

40-45K for salvage title ones.
45-55 for clean title needing service
55 and up for serviced depending on overall condition. Start with high mileage, worn interior, paint deficiencies etc. is a starting point.

Once in a while good deals do come up but that should not be an indication of market values. Based on high volume sales those good deals wont make much of a difference in average pricing.

But then again, what do I know I have only had 8-10 of these cars with title and condition ranges.
