Does anybody here have any experience moving an iTunes library and account onto a new computer? I have my iTunes library backed up to an external HD. I'd like to be able to move everything to a new computer without having to rebuild all of our iPods.
The other main concern is that both of my sons have purchased various music and apps directly from/on their iPod/iPhones since they were last synced with the iTunes library on the now dead computer. So the only place these purcahses exist is on the iPod/iPhone - my iTunes library does not yet know about these purchases.
I've been told there is third party software I can use to pull everything off the devices so that these new purchases can be merged with my iTunes library backup once I load iTunes on my new computer. I understand this needs to be done before I install iTunes on my new computer and hook these devices to iTunes on the new computer.
Anyone here have any experince doing this and have any recommendations as to software to use or stay away from?
    Thanks...

I just did it. I had to back it up onto an external hard drive and then hook the HD to the new computer with itunes on it and drag the folder with the library in it to the itunes folder. There is a step by step guide on apples site.

The other way is to buy a program to let you copy from the ipod/iphone.

Thanks - what tool(s) did you use to copy stuff rom your iPod/iPhone?
    That's my issue here.
My iTunes library is already backed up to an external HD.

I didn't. I put iTunes on the new computer opened the iTunes folder usually in music on windows and dragged the folder from the external HD into it. You have to authorize the computer in iTunes, they only allow you a certain number of computers, after to use your iTunes acct. Check out the apple support site.

Will I be able to transfer music purchased from an iPod back to the iTunes account?
These purchases were made after the last backup. I need to be able to get stuff off the iPod/iPhone that is not part of the backed up iTunes library.
If you could, please post link to article from Apple support site you are referring to?
    Thanks...

Once you get your iTunes set up with your library loaded set it not to auto sync then you Plug in the iPod. Then you can right click on the iPod on the left column and " transfer purchases" then after that sync.

Thanks so much for your help - mission accomplished.
Only one thing odd - the two iPods work correctly with the new iTunes.
Successfully transferred all purchases from all devices.
But the one iPhone - when it connects to the new iTunes - it gives the message that this device is synced with another computer and it wants to wipe it clean and rebuild it.
The two iPod touches did not do that.
    Strange.
    Thanks again -
