A good friend of mine is building an 8000 sq. ft. home on a small lake in northern Michigan that he will primarily use on the weekends. I went up there with him to check on progress last weekend....this place is unreal! It is about 2/3 of the way done now. It has distributed audio/video throughout the whole place, heated floors, 4500 sq. ft. finished "garage" w/ living quarters in it plus a six stall garage on main house (3 up/3 down), when he steps onto the floor from his bed the lights slowly come on and as he walks the computer lights his way, he can turn on lights, alarm, unlock doors, etc. from his computer, outdoor kitchen, 4 stone masons working for 8 months, etc. In a nutshell, the place is unreal. This guy is the kindest soul you could find (NOT pretentious at all). As we were driving back to Muskegon, he asked me for a suggestion for a name that the stone masons will carve into the front of the house. I suggested something Italian (he currently has no Italian cars, but I'm working on him!). In fact, he has a 1932 International pickup (I think Int anyway) that he is having customized right now that was at the SEMA show w/ C5 drivetrain & suspension also a 1958 Bloomington gold Corvette, so he does love cars.
    Hints:
    1) He loves cars
    2) He is a shrewd businessman
    3) The house is in a very solemn, quiet area
    4) He is an avid runner/bicyclist
    5) He is about 64 years old

With the above info, how about a catchy name from your creative minds!! Thanks in advance, Jerry.

    Avanti.

Means "welcome" in Italian; if he's a nice guy, then he probably openly welcomes people into his home... Short and sweet, but meaningful. Welcome.

Actually, benvenuto means welcome in the sense of "welcoming someone into your home" in the italian language.

Avanti actually means forward or ahead as in "come forward" or "move ahead"

Just want to clear up the confusion.

How about suggesting to him NOT to name the house and just be humble of his fortune? (Sorry, I'm always good for tossing a turd in one's punchbowl!)

I thought the same thing, what is it with naming houses anyway? I can understand place's like FLW's Fallingwater, it's sort of obvious. If you have to ask....?

It has NOTHING to do with a "oh look at me" type of attitude at all, believe me. He just wants something clever on the front so (among other reasons) he could say, I'll meet you at X on Friday or whatever. Believe me, this guy is as nice, welcoming and humble as they come.

I bought a motorcycle from a guy in Atlanta once, went to pick it up and went into a subdivision that was the typical McMansions on the postage stamps. Went to the guy's front door, and there on the wall was the house's name on a plaque! So-and -so Manor or somesuch thing. I didn't know whether to laugh or puke.

Now why would you write something like that? If you can't contribute to the thread, go the hell somewhere else. I don't remember asking opinions of what you thought of the idea.

House of speed? "Casa" has to be house, velocita has to be "fast" or another velocity derivative.

My weekend place is "The Lazy E".
