That is correct. Anyone that knows what involved in building an Inconel system would understand that it’s a bargain. Inconel 625 is the same material used on F1 headers and nuclear reactors. It has over 3-4 times the tensile strength of stainless and titanium allowing a very thin gauge metal without sacrificing strength. It must be welded in an inert environment for a clean X ray quality weld, meaning you need a special aerospace vacuum chamber filled with argon gas. On 304ss we use 16 gauge .065, 321ss uses 18 gauge .049, and Inconel 625 20 gauge .035. For street use I suggest ceramic coated 304 or 321. Inconel for a race environment or someone looking for weight savings.

The Mclaren F1 actually has an inconel/titanium exhaust that is 67Kg lighter than normal steel. :D

Inconel makes titanium look like childs play. Titanium actually isn’t all its hyped up to be. Its tensile strength is closer to a standard mild steel then a stainless. Also its becomes brittle and breaks down over time.

Yep, and 360 ones aren't much better. Just much more accessible.

One of the common failures is that they break around the sampling plugs... poor welding/design etc etc.

Plus, the vibrations and harmonics that come from the flat plane crank shake the things to bits... eg, the Cam belt tensioners on the LH bank are rubber mounted for vibration protection, yet the RH are ok to be rigid as that side doesn't shake so much... curiously, it's the RH manifold that seems to fail earlier more commonly, though not always.

Yeah, I read that ages ago and it came back to me tonight, so I found the thread.

There sure was something about AHG: when he spoke, I listened! :)

    I'm still here.

Not saying I'll be doing this for a living for the rest of my life but I'll always be in the Ferrari community and have and will pay out of my personal pocket to make sure you're happy.
