Thanks for the positive booster shot! I will keep posting pics as the project continues. I am a little side tracked right now, I have to get the engine back in my Lotus!

Hey guys, it has been a while since I posted any more info about the rebuild and that is because I have not really had any time to work on the project. I am not going to play the world’s smallest violin for you guys, just basically life has gotten a lot busier and it isn’t going to slow down anytime soon. I don’t want to see this thing waste away in the garage.

Basically here is the deal: I have had the car for over three years and have gotten most of the parts needed to fix it. I took the engine cradle out of the car and stripped most of the interior. So far I have put nearly $45k into the project and I would rather sell everything to someone who would finish it then part what I have out. There just aren’t that many ’99 F1 GTS’s out there. If you are interested, please PM me for more info and pictures. The car is in central Wisconsin but I can bring it down to Chicago no problem.

I am really sitting on the fence with this decision; I hate to not complete what I have started.

Wow, all that for 45K. I would think 10 would be pushing it. It would take another 50-75k to get it driveable so it becomes a 45k salvage car.
    Start parting it out now.

Sucks to hear Andrew, but with this lousy market I don't think it will sell for anywhere close to $45k... I would slowly start parting it out and try to recoup your money spent...Plenty of extra parts I would be interested in..

Thanks for your opinion but I never said I was asking $45k or expected to get even close to that. I was just hopping for some offers. Where can you even get a engine and F1 trans for 10k? I wish I knew where you shop, it seems cheap

I totally agree with you 285, I don’t expect to get near $45k for it. I need to clarify, I’m not asking $45k, just stating what I have into it with the purchase price of the car and parts I have gotten so far. I bought a take out engine cradle with a complete rear suspension (so now I have an extra passenger’s side), a drivers side axle, a driver’s side door, a rear rim, tail lights and a rear tail light panel. I also have glass for the doors. I also have other random bits and pieces that aren’t coming to mind now but that is the major stuff. I was hoping for a reasonable offer in the $30k’s with a gentleman’s agreement that they would try to finish the car instead of turning around and parting it out. I can do that myself ;)

Hi Leorosa, your car looks great! It is awesome that you got it finished! Now that you are finished, have time to work on mine? ;)

Wow! I look at that picture and there is this particular part of my anatomy that just wants to crawl up inside of me. That's going to be a handful and getting it back to near factory tolerances is going to be exceptionally difficult. On the other hand.....nothing ventured, nothing gained!! Good luck.

Honestly, I think that will be your best bet to recover some of your money. Probably sell faster too.

Pics and some more info sent.

When I was looking through the pictures I noticed the end date for the pictures is right before my niece was born. Kids take up too much time!

If you are not motivated by money but rather the accomplishment of getting that car back on the road and looking good again. And I thought my salvage-titled F355 was a tough project but it was easy compared to this.

I'll chip in a second booster shot. I have about $15K and 3 months in the repair of my '97 355 Spider. I drove it for the first time today with the top down...

    ...and it was awesome!
