I have a 2005 430, F1 transmission, 22k miles. I have owned it for 2 years and had the clutch replaced a few months ago. Everything’s been working great and was running fine when I parked it 2 nights ago. So I get in it this afternoon, warm it up and put it in reverse......wouldn’t move. If I gave it a little more gas it would move a few inches. Put it in 1st....same thing. Turned it off, restarted it and tried again, same thing. Any ideas on what to check or anything I can reset?? I looked underneath the car, nothing leaking. Thanks for any help!

No one has any ideas? I’m 120 miles away from Norwood’s and a closed transport is going to run $360 so I want to make sure there is nothing I can do.

Does it roll freely in neutral? If not, may not be the transmission at all.

I would go with battery. If your battery is low it doesn’t have enough juice to properly run the F1 system. Same thing happened to me. Charged the battery back up and it’s been working fine ever since.

I would first check to make sure your battery is good and has enough juice = at least 12V.

After that there is not much we can do so just take it to the dealer, they will hook it up to an SD3 and determine what went wrong.

Sorry we are not much help............

Thanks for the ideas guys. I have been away from the car for a couple of days so have not been able to make sure it rolls freely in neutral. I am hoping it is the battery, that is something I did not even consider. I had Norwood's check the battery when the clutch was replaced a few months ago and it was good, but I don't keep it on a tender because I drive it at least 2-3 times a week. I do have a tender though so I'll hook it up this afternoon.

Thanks for the insight, Victor. That's why I suggested seeing if the car would roll in neutral -- it seems to me there are a variety of brake or other issues that might cause these symptoms, which are not necessarily related to the transmission.

Good luck, Rodney! Let us know what you figure out!

Start the engine and put it in first gear. Turn off the engine and rock the car forward and backward a few times. Restart the engine and check if that fixes the problem.

If you hook it up to an SD3, you should be able to see if the transaxle input shaft is rotating or not.

You know what? When it first happened I immediately thought the parking brake was on because it had that feel to it. Checked and of course it was not engaged so my thoughts went immediately to a clutch issue. I will try Steve's solution when I get home tonight and see what happens.

Problem resolved, thanks everyone. I put it on the tender, charged it up good and everything seems to be working normally. Thanks again!

Have the battery load tested to see how it is doing. If it cannot hold a charge for a few days, it may be on the way out.
