I am hiring a Thai caterer to bring lunch in to a customer for a meeting that I am hosting next week for twenty engineers (In Santa Clara). Since I know nothing about Thai food, any replies with suggestions on what 6-7 popular dishes would be and what a few good side dishes would be, I would be very apprecitive.

    Thanks in advance,
    Pete

Maybe it's slightly prosaic and overdone, but I love green chicken curry. When I cook Thai, that's what I make.

    Cafe Yen

When I lived in Thailand I would drink these like crazy. It is an iced coffee drink (no booze in it) that is super tasty and refreshing.

That is how I test Thai resturaunts, I ask for cafe Yen........"What is that?"........I know they are fakesters.

I had heard Thai food was spicy, but for years, every time I had Thai food and I requested it to be spicy, it failed to meet my expectations. Then the Thai-born wife of a co-worker told me that because I look so Caucasian, I was never going to get the real deal - so she gave me the password: "Thai hot". So if you too do not appear Thai, when they ask if you would like mild, medium, or hot, and you really do want to try hot, you just need to say the password. :)

    I like to order:
TOM YUM GOONG soup, and either GAI GRA PAO (chicken in basil, chili, & garlic) or NEUA KRA-PRAW (beef in basil, chili, & garlic) as a main dish.

I asked the same lady where to find the best Thai food in the area, and she recommended the original Krung Thai on Winchester just South of Moorpark (just across 280 from Santana Row). http://www.originalkrungthai.com/ There are many other good ones in this area, though.
