Im looking for an exhaust system for my 84 308 GTS QV. For about a week now I've been doing my homework searching for an exhaust on the internet and found a few brands TUBI, STERBO, CAPRISTO, CSC, ANSA, and LARINI they all say the same thing they are mede of stainless, increase HP and Torque, sound better, lighter in weight, decrease temp in engine bay, and they all have lifetime warranty. They may be all true but I still dont know which one to get, any sugestion?

    Thanks: Mike

Went through the same thing not too long ago. It boils down to how much you want to spend and which exhaust note hits you just right. For me some cost more than I wanted to spend: Tubi, Capristo; I have never been fond of the Tubi sound, Stebro isn't all stainless, so-so reviews/feedback on some, etc, etc. I settled on the Larini. To make a long story short, I'm awaiting their sports exhaust and will post sound clips soon.

Oh, and some of the guys have gone the Flowmaster/glass pack route and swear by them. Its a MUCH cheaper alternative. I considered it but no area muffler shops did mandrel bending and all I got from them was "...well...we can try". No thanks. As I said in one of my posts there is something to tuned exhausts. Try some searching and you should get some good info.

There is a million threads here on 308 exhaust systems, do a search. I'm a Tubi guy all the way, have them on my 84 QV. You can't go wrong with them.

To summarize a lot of what is in the other threads:

"The FChat Golden Rule of Exhausts is to buy an system primarily because you like the sound and volume, NOT for any promises of horsepower gains. Construction materials are important, but secondary issue to what you have to hear."

    hello,
i installed stebro on my 83 qv; they were about half the price of the tubi ... nice construction, ss, good fit (i did not fit them myself, though).
the nice feature they have is that you can choose how loud you want to be; they have removable mufflers inside the tips, one screw to pull them out (you may have to do some pulling, they can get stuck after a while).
with the mufflers on, the car sounds louder than stock but not too much. without them, it is LOUD... nice rumble at low rpms, good pitch when you redline. i alternated between the two setups and now i drive without them, mainly because you really feel a much more noticeable improvement in the performance without the mufflers.
mind you, the aftermarket exhaust systems are all so much lighter than stock that you gain some in any case!

stefano, correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought the Stebro was only part ss, not all of it.

Thanks BigAl, for the input however, I spoke to Lyle Tanner from Ferrari Parts Exchange and he strongly suggest Larini and its $1000 less. I cant wait for your sound clip.

Quicksilver was amazing. Did not have headers on the shelf but told me they had drawings. Said the best deliver they could offer was 4-6 weeks. 10 days after I placed the order with Evans Auto in Ohio I had my headers. 10 days! From London to Detroit including fabrication. Makes me wonder about US customs. How do you get a bunch of metal tubes thru customs that fast?

I've also been searching for someone who has the Tubi for a US 84 QV. Do you have the single cat version and are you using the original cat? I've searched F-Chat but not been able to find this specific installation. All vehicles in the Chicago area are emmissions tested until they hit 25 years so I need to find someone who has the Tubi with the stock cat for an informed opinion.

    Thanks.

Beautiful picture and it looks better with out the shield that covers the exhaust system. How does it sound and perform?

    hello,
i believe they are actually stainless steel (don't take my word for it though, you should check with the manufacturer before purchasing) ... unfortunately, they are covered by the big black "skirt" so they don't shine... but they won't rust!

When I bought mine they told me what grade stainless they use. I believe it was 304 for the tubes but a less corrsion resistant stainless for the sheet. I sent my for Jet-hot coating ($90 for the muffler), lifetime garantee plus some other benefits beside the corrosion resistance.

I posted before and after pics on this thread:

Was installation difficult? I always fret about the front bank.

I hired a mechanic to install it. He said fit was great. he also told me the rear header comes out thru the top so you need to move the airbox and injector unit. For the front one you need to remove the right side fuel tank.

The Stebro muffler is all (as in, 100%) stainless steel. Very good fit, good quality welds, nice piece of work. It is not polished and, consequently, doesn't have the bling factor of the tubi but frankly I think that's a better, and more subtle, look. The sound is deeper than the tubi which to my ear sounds a bit too high pitched and raspy. Pricing is good too at about 1/2 to 2/3 the price of the tubi. Get the cat replacement pipe(s) to go with the muffler - the end result is a real 10+ bump in hp and a wonderful sound!

Sounds like a Ferrari should do with the Tubi on,no noticable gain in performance I would say.

FYI, Stebro has been out of business for years now.
