I need some 275/40 ZR 17 tires for my rear 348 Hamann rims. It seems this has become an extinct size and I can only find Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 or Falken FK-452 I'd need to sell the rims to be able to afford the Michelins (which seems self-defeating). The Falkens have got VERY good reviews, but I always seem to associate them with "cheap" brands. Has anyone had any experience with them? Cheers Drew (PS: please no suggestions to use a different tire size as I don't want to go through the whole street-legal homologation business in Germany again. I know myself if I change one digit in the tire size I can find every other brand!)
I've had them on other cars (not the Fcar) and they wear fine with low road noise and decent wear but I don't think you're going to find the performance to be the same. If you're just driving on the street and not tracking the car, you'll probably be fine. On the other hand, if you intend to track the car or highly spirited weekend driving I don't think you're going to be as happy. Don't get me wrong, they won't kill you but they're just not as sticky as the Pilots.
I love Falkens! They have a great combo of excellent traction and treadwear; I use them on my STi for both autocross racing and street driving.
Have Falkens on my 355. All the tire I could ever want / need. Excellent wet & dry and fairly low noise. Over a year with excellent wear. I really don't pay attention to having to have a "boutique" tire. I car about performance and value. Falkens do it for me JD
Cheers guys for the excellent responsiveness! This has managed to remove any reticence I had - I'll order tomorrow! Thanks Drew
