We're planning a family vacation in Europe from July 2 through 17. So far, the only certainty is a week or so in Paris. Large group but flexible participants, some would skip F1 races or Ferrari factory tours.

It is time for me to finalize some automotive themed activities. The most extreme would be to squeeze in the French GP July 3, British GP the 10th a Ferrari factory visit or the F1 driving experience in South of France. I could use some advice on what can still be scheduled and what pitfalls should be avoided. Is Silverstone miserable to get in and out of?

I'm a big Ferrari fan, we went to Monza in 2000, and we're going to USGP this June. I've always wanted to visit the Ferrari factory, and would also like to do a Pcar tour. I thought an FIA GT race would be fun and a little less "circus" like than F1, but it looks like they're not running until the end of July.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

The guys in the UK section would know better,. but the British GP was always terrible to get into, total chaos. Perhaps things have changed. The Italian GP on the other hand in Monza is a dream, not what you'd expect in Italy, but there you go.

Not a big fan of museums but try and get into the Alfa museum in Aresse near Milan. The Schlumpf collection is always worth a visit as is the Mercedes collection in Stuttgart

Check and see what classic events are around as well. Not sure of the dates for the Goodwood Festival of Speed, or The Tour Auto in Paris.

    Wolfgang...whats going on in Germany?

I'd vote for the French GP over the British having been to both. Silverstone was terrible to get out of but things may have improved now they've got a new road system. However, it can take a while to get out of the French GP as well. It depends on where they park you. I'd go for the French because the facilities are much much better and it's likely to be warmer. Silverstone can be baking hot or freezing cold even in July as it used to be an airfield and is perched on a slight plateau and is therefore very exposed.

French GP is also situated right in the middle of a great wine making area. We stayed near Sancerre about 25 miles up the road from Magny Cours. It was very nice. We stayed here: http://www.innsoffrance.com/hotelview.aspx?h=2157

Any more info suggest you PM me

    Thanks for the help!

Goodwood would be wonderful, but it looks like the "festival of speed" has been moved from July to late June due to F1 conflict, and the "revival" is September.

I had heard that Silverstone was awful to get in and out of. French GP will be a bit of a squeeze arriving on Saturday, but might be a great way to start the trip.

Could I still get decent seats for Magny Cours? I'll pm Welshman.

Any more advice would be great.
