Will not go down the fuel road as I have not gotten to that point in my tutorial so I'll defer my opinon until later. All these items below happened to me. Try these easy possible fixes for starters: 1) Re-Check the coil wires/coil connections. In the 308 GTSi type coil, the metal contact in the coil is deceptively deep in the hole .... I MEAN DEEP. The 328 coil MAY HAVE the same design "flaw." I'd just bet some/many 308s here have lightning storms going on inside the coil due to arching as the wire end and metal inside the coil are not in direct contact and the owner doesn't know it. 2) When you changed the coil you may have bumped and disrupted the ground creating an intermittant contact. Heat and expansion and if you did not clean the contacts well this may again create an "open" the spark cannot jump so it goes elsewhere and a bank dies. 3) Ohlm (Resistance) Check your coil wires. I had an "Open" one. The car seemed to run just fine, however. Appearently the break was just wide enough to deprive the cylinder of some/most of the spark, but not all. It never "killed a bank" though. 4.a) Run the car in near absolute darkness (important point) for awhile. See if you have a little lightning storm going on along the plug/coil wires wherever they are very near metal pieces. I discovered error #1 above by doing this and the process of elimination. It was actually pretty to watch the tiny and very faint blue/white sparks dance along the plug wires. In anything other than VERY LOW light, I would have NEVER seen it. With the old Cavis wires that visually looked perfectly fine, (but only 5 or 6 of the 10 wires turned out to be 'electrically' sound) it mush have been really something in there. 4.b) You can also take a spray bottle of water and spray (not stream) it on all the electic bits that carry High juice (coils, wires, extenders, grounds, etc.). If the electricity is going somewhere other than where it should, when the parts are wet the errant current will reveal itself in the idle stepping down and possibily some "lightning" dancing around. Use wifey's rubber gloves to help prevent shock. Shouldn't happen but, SAFETY 1st !!!! 5) Remember: Expansion thru heat can also CLOSE an "Open" contact too. Recommend you give these suggestions a try and get back to us. YMMV. Good Luck !!!!
Well after swapping the coils over I must have disturbed a connection as the car is now running on 8 cyls!! I think the cause could have been on the front plug off the coil, perhaps just not sitting correctly? Its all a bit strange but it seems to be fine now! Thanks to all that shared their thoughts and technical knowledge... It was a great help! Just in time for the sun shine!
