Thanks Bo and Steve. I'll try to drive the car around some more this weekend and see if this problem is happening more and more frequently, or only when the car is hot.

I don't understand this? Isn't each pump for a different bank? Wouldn't one bank go out?

Yes, if one of the fuel pumps stops working that bank will stop working, but the other bank will continue to run perfectly smoothly (and be able to rev with additional throttle). Each bank is a complete 6-cyl engine with equally-spaced firing events (unlike a typical US V8 that would run like a bucking bronco on one bank ;)). The symptom for a TR with one dead fuel pump is: low (1/2) power, low idle, but still runs smoothly and can rev up -- that doesn't match the symptoms Tommy reported.

Drove car around for 2.5 - 2.75 miles on Saturday and it started acting up again, and parked it, as it was on the way to the mechanic's. Got up early this morning and walked to the car, and limped it along to the mechanic, which was maybe a little less than a mile away. Car started up just fine this morning, but I haven't heard anything back from the mechanic, who's had it all day, so I guess he's still trying to figure it out.

.....car is still with mechanic. Went to visit him midweek to get something out of the car. Said he hadn't had much time to work on it, but was able to easily replicate my problem. Car started OK and drove fine after warmup, then he said he "got on it" and was driving well, *really well* he said with a big smile, and then boom it stopped running right and he limped it back to the shop.
