I searched the archives, but am still confused. Tommorrow I am changing my gearbox oil. I understand its about 10 liters or so, but which brand?

When I first got my testarossa, I hated the gearbox. Tough to shift, occasionally crunched gears when cold (It was mid winter). Now 3000 miles later it shifts great. Hot or cold, 2nd gear is NOT a problem. Never crunches/ whines/ etc. I almost hate to do the preventative maintenance because it is so perfect as is...

Any idea what the best fluid is to put in? The archives mention Mobil 1 , Redline, some guys use LSD modifiers, some have used MOPAR type oils???

What do the dealers use? I don't know what LFSC put in here with the last fluid change, but it works great. Anyone know? I will try to call their parts department later, but anyone know whats recommended off hand???

I know they prefer castrol gtx 20/50 for the motor oil...rather than synthetics

I like Redline and Mobile1 gear old and used both in my ex-TR. Brian S. uses Royal Purple in his 512TR gearbox and says it works great and smoothed out the 1st to 2nd shift. I now use Mobile1 in my Boxer gearbox.

I had the same issue with my old 78. I used Mobile 1 with the MOPAR additive (comes in a tube). That fixed 99% of the issues you mentioned. Now I am using just redline with no issues.

I like the Royal Purple as well......I use the entire line of products....engine, tranny and cooling system!

Agree that it seems to smooth the shilfting problems...check them out!

Does the royal purple stuff help to keep the coolant temps down on the 308?

Not as much as properly flushing the radiator and verifying the fans are running!

But they have a good product that helps with corrosion, as you know the dissimilar metals in these systems don't always get along........

Their World Headquarters is in Porter, Texas, just north of town here...

They have provided product support as a Child Advocates sponsor of my team for many years....the ball caps are SHARP on the Victory Podium, as well! ;)

They didn't think I'd put their logos on the Ferrari, then I walked them outside to the Art Car.........LOL!

I know the 75-90W gear lube is SMMMMMOOOOOOOOTH........

I have also heard the continual debate on Redline and the additives, but I try to keep it simple.....

Thanks guys, sounds like any premium gear oil is ok. Are there any specific subsets of Mobil 1 or Royal Purple, or do they just make 1 type of lube for manual boxes? With automatic trans oils there are at least 3 different specifications...
