Help Please - Re-bodied (?) 250 GT

I photographed this good-looking '61 GT at Brands Hatch yesterday. I had intended to speak to the driver/owner about it, but circumstances prevented this. I am looking to correctly determine the model type, which from one source is given as 250 SWB GT Berlinetta Competizione, but another says it's a converted GTE 2+2. I'm just wondering please if an expert here may be able to offer me insight/guidance in order to accurate identify this handsome GT?

Further thanks Steven. Fiscal record shows the car as '61, so I think the idea that it's based on a donor GTE is right, and the engine capacity is as would be expected for a Tipo 168 at 2953 cc. With kind regards, David

 

Thanks Mark for the suggestion. I gather there's a growing sentiment that the loss of GTEs to donor status is really to be regretted. One understands the temptation to 'create' a GT or GTO - and the car I photographed at Brands certainly does look handsome - but whatever may be the initial intentions, it's impossible to rule out a duping of someone further along the ownership/age chain. As with the debate about restoration or preservation, a cautious approach is surely to be preferred as radical changes cannot simply be undone. Regards, David.
