Hey guys, I'm just proactively replacing the F1 relay and also curious to inspect the stock one for any signs of issues. When replacing the F1 relay, is it simply held in by tension or is there a latch mechanism that must be depressed to release it? I wanted to make sure before I break anything. Likewise, I assume it is a best practice to flip the battery disconnect before making the change. Please confirm. Thanks for any assistance!
Just pull like you mean it. Nothing holding it in place other than tension. I would disconnect the battery also. You can look for burn marks from arcing but not sure that means anything.
There will be live battery volts (from the battery via fuse PSF31) on pin 30 of the relay socket, but, in theory, if the driver's door is closed, there should be no current flow through the high current contacts of the relay to prime the pump when you plug the relay in. The F1 TCU will only energise the low powered relay coil if the pump is commanded on.
