so does the term 'straight thru' mean ..... no CATs and no BACKBOX... at all? That sounds Awesumely simple, fewer things to go wrong and replace. If yours sounds good I'm following suit!

The car would be noisier (or more music like ;) ) but it should run cooler with out the cats in the engine bay due to the heat they are required to generate for the cats to function.

The car will run at a similar temp' but with the straight thro' system there will be less radiated heat soak when you stop as the system sits well away from all the heat shields at the back of engine so plenty of space for air to circulate. This does help the temp when in traffic.

The system weighs nothing! A few kilo's at worst! You get performance in 2 ways, more power or less weight, this is definitely less weight! Allot less even compared to a regular Tubi.

The exhaust mass is situated right at the back of the car behind the rear axle line, there isn't a better place to lose it from to help handling!

This system makes a hell of a noise! Its like a mid 80's GP car, but it is quite noisy at idle and in traffic.

How do I know these things? I had one fitted to my car on Saturday! The reason its not suitable for me, A 7.30am departure for work in the 355 would wake my 12 month old son and that equals s**t from my wife!

With a Tubi and no cats the car is loud. This must be something else !

No pic's of installation. I should have done a "step by step" guide to a Tubi' install!

I'll take a pic' of the system "off car" and post tonight. To anyone thinking about fitting a Tubi (or any exhaust for that matter) "at home" it very easy. Its the first time I've done one and took about about 3hrs max' including coffee stops!

I think I'll go for a standard Tubi as its more "baby friendly"!!!!!!!!!

Thats cool, it would be great to see the system. Are you coming along on Saturday and if yes, what will you have attached to the car at that stage?

Will be there on Sat', but back to std exhaust at the moment. I'm now thinking either std Tubi or MS Racing from Japan.

My first 355 was decat with Tubi' so I know I'll like the sound, but the MS Racing system is in Titanium (so light weight) and has a silencer when the by-pass valve is not in operation, but when the by-pass opens its straight thro'! Could be fun?

Titanium systems also have a different pitch or ring to them compared to stainless steel, which I like!

Hopefully have something sorted within a few weeks!

    See you all Sat'

That is I nice compromise with the bypass valve going passed the box as well on the Titanium system. Shame about 3rd gear bypass opening up quite late (3500 rpm?), but not too much of an issue. Your wife will thank you lots no doubt!

Indeed will see you on Saturday.

So I take it the top input comes from the bypass system, and the bottom two connection to essentially 'test pipes' in place of where your CATs where? Have I got that the right way round? I guess you had to buy/fit test pipes as well then.

Sorry I might be picturing that all wrong! :)

dont forget when the rear box is removed the decrease in back pressure
will result in loss of performance.

the fuel mapping will need to be modded to incease fuel.this can be achieved
    by upgrading the ecu's.

Had similar problems with a 348 spider. installed tubi with pipes & k&n

car felt flat untill I replaced both ecu's with tailored stage 3, rpm was also increae to 8500rpm.

    verdi sorted it all out.

car feels more responsive & goes like a rocket.

I'm not sure if it's anything like the straight-through system I had on my F355, but the whole car resonated which became a bit tiresome.. as did the 118dB (what ? I can't hear you ? sorry.. let me turn the engine off ? No.. sorry.. still can't hear you.. I think I've gone deaf )

I'm intrigued by your fitment of the Tubi in 3 hrs. Is this something even I could attempt?- I have a Tubi on order at the moment, fitting it at home would be more convenient than going to a garage.

I have no workshop manual, just plenty of enthusiasm, reasonable skill and limited patience.

What is the procedure (approximately, just to give a flavour)?

    Cheers,

    Robert.

you need to take the under tray and the back bumper off and then the exhaust but would not like to do it with a 4 poster ramp if you dont have acess to a ramp just let the garage fit it

Fitting is quite easy, I did it at home just normal jacks, tools reqd' are quite basic. PM me with your mobile no' and I'll talk you thro' it.

I've got another system on its way, when that is delivered I'll try to do a "step by step" photo guide to fitting an exhaust. Its not a Tubi' but the method is the same.

    Cheers Bernard

My wife would probably concur with Steve F on the 'let the garage do it' front as my last plumbing job involving fitting a tap was less than succesful! The downside of knackering a 355 is probably more than getting a plumber out to fix the kitchen sink as last time...

I may just go with the garage who will fit it free, but if I go down the DIY route it'd be great if I could talk to you- I'll PM you.

What exhaust are you going for?

    Robert

MS Racing exhaust is definitely the best thing around... if you don't mind me asking, where are you ordering yours and how much it would cost?!?

    Thanks...

After seeking advise from friends in Japan involved with the Ferrari aftermarket, I decided to fit an Ito Racing exhaust. Its similar in design to MS Racing with separate silencer boxes for the Cat & Cat-bypass outlets. While the MS Racing system is straight through for the Cat-bypass, the Ito Racing system has a small silencer, its about the same length and diameter as fitted to a Japanese “superbike”!

I was advised that dyno’ testing showed a drop in mid-range torque with the MS racing system, I think that’s true of many aftermarket exhausts, but the Ito was fairly constant like the standard exhaust.

At idle the car is quite a lot louder than stock, but with a quite a deep bass sound. But at high rev’s it’s fantastic! A beautiful “wail”!

At constant throttle about 80 mph (130kph) there is no cabin resonance, and its no louder than the standard exhaust, easy to talk or listen to the radio if you wish!

I don’t know how much the system retails for, try the Ito web site in Japan.
