I did a search and found some info, How about some more from the experts. The 360 has sat for a couple of weeks. When I warmed her up this a.m. the CEL light was on. I took off the gas cap, no relief. Went to watch the S bowl and no more CEL..... On the way home I am ringing her out fairly hard. First time in a long time I can realy push her.... When I accelerate hard and then hard brake the SLOW DOWN light comes flickers on then goes off....I thought my niehbors were talking to me.... My search found that it may be an overheating exhaust sensor? The car was never hot and I only got on it for less than a couple of miles. The temp is 40 degrees.... Thanks in advance for any help. I would hate to have to go to the dealer....
Although its not nearly as common in 360's as it is in earlier cars (355, 348), it you likely have a cat ECU that has failed. As long as your car isn't legitimately about to catch on fire from a glowing red cat (which you should visually check whenever a SLOW DOWN light appears), I'd guess its the ECU. There are two in the car, one for each side of the engine. Early ECU's have a black epoxy seal that cracks and allows moisture to enter, thus ruining the ECU. Newer ECU's have a more durable green epoxy seal. In the 360, because the engine compartment is much more sealed from the elements (compared to 348/355), a cracked ECU is less likely to see excessive moisture. That's why they "seem" to fail less. The two are identical, one either side of the engine. They are shown as part #20 in this picture: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/article_info.php?articles_id=574 (you can click the picture to enlarge it) The actual "new style" ECU's are listed here: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=208023 Hope this helps!
I am also experiencing intermittent problem with Slow Down light coming on in my 360. Similiar to your experience, the light comes on when the engine is still relatively cold and it goes off after a few mins (thus far). I have encountered similiar problem with my 355 and it was resolved when I replaced the Cat ECU and hence I suspect I might be encountering the same issues with a faulty Cat ECU (which I thought is supposedly more reliable on the 360!). However, unlike the 355 which have indicator for 1-4 and 5-8 cylinder bank, I cannot tell from the 360 display panel which side is faulty. I would like to check if there's an easy way to check which side is faulty? Or must I try and error to figure out (since I do not have any dignostic tools)?
What year is your 360? Depending on production date, you could certainly have the old-style black ones in your car. Just take a peek at them and see if they've developed cracks in the epoxy seal. Remember, you're looking for the epoxy seal -- not the color of the housing itself (which is black on all of them).
