I opened the door to my garage this morning and something smelled strange. At first I thought it was comming from outside but I decided to just check under the car and to my horror saw a huge puddle of fluid. I poured some oil next to it to see if that what it is but this stuff has a pungent smell to it and looks a little darker. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It most likely looks like oil and has a different smell and look because it has been run thru the car already.

I would not drive far unti you check that out with your mechanic or whomever.

Where is the leak abouts underneath the car?

Just got off the phone with FOA and they said the same thing that it sounds like gear oil. It does have a stinky smell to it. I moved the car back so I cant take any pics of the excat spot where its coming out but it is at the back of the car. Since its so close to the $7k major that I just did with them I am going to take it in and see what they say.
Thanks for the rapid response guys!

Don't worry next time you see such. Bend on your knees & look under your car where it may come from. If it's the rear, it's usually gear or engine oil & make sure it's not dripping non stop. If it's under the front axle, most likely the air-con lubrication (like water & a little soapy). If it's liquid like water giving off steam when engine is running or just shut-off, most likely expelled water coolant from the expansion tank or a leak. I think engine oil tends to be darker & dirtier than gearoil if it's been use for a while. I've even seen fuel leaking badly near the fuel pump pipe due to a worn seal. Old cars....

If they just did a $7k major service they should cover the repair if it was part of what they just serviced (assuming they changed the gear oil).

That's probably gearbox fluid, quite a bit of it. Personally, I would make darn sure that the drain plug isn't loose. If the drain plug falls off while you are driving, you will have a lot bigger problem than some oil on your floor! You should be able to see where a leak that big is coming from.

If it isn't the drain plug/seal, then it's probably coming from the "triple seal" on the clutch shaft. If the clutch was worked on at your last service, then they may have damaged the seals. Don't know. If the triple seals are leaking, the fluid will be coming out of the perforated panel on the bottom of the clutch housing.

They did not service the clutch becuase they said that it was fine. I basically brought it in for a "time based" major.
FOA is only 3 miles from my house so I just drove it in this morning. I noticed good oil pressure, good oil temp, clutch was good and shifting fine. The smell of the leaking fluid is really bad (smells like B.O.) which I am told is what gear oil smells like.
Should this be something that they should cover? I had the service done less than 1k miles ago.
Arggghh..This is bringing back memories of the 89' Tb I had 10 years ago!

    What was the time though?

Most dealers do a, for example, 12 month, 10000 mile or 3 month/3000 warranty on work.

I would think FOA would have replaced the gear oil for the 30K and probably didn't screw the plug back in right.
Last year, one of the mechanics there didn't screw my Testarossa center cap correctly and it flew on the highway, I was pissed.
Make sure they cover your expenses for that.

It had a 15k with belt done back in 2000 with 10k miles on the clock. Being that it was 2006 the car was due for a belt change so we did another 15k with belt change and some extras like plug wires etc. The car still only has 20k miles. I have put less than 1k miles since the service was done so at this point I dont feel like I should pay anything. We'll see what happens.

"Its the flux capacitor. I'm sure of it."

Possible but it could also be a leak in the photostatic muffler valve. Isn't it in that same area?

I think the fluid in the flux capacitor is yellow. This looks brownish.

Nobody asked him what he was drinking the night before!

I think there is more to this than meets the eye!

I took into FOA and it was just shift shaft seal. I got the car back yesterday and it is perfect. Thanks to all that responded. Yes I did put the car up for sale. I told the wife I was thinking about getting a Porsche 993tt as a daily driver and keep this one as the weekend car. She basically said one or the other thinking that I would never sell it. So with great regret, I have put it back on the market. The car is as nice and perfect as you will find anywhere.

I guess. FerrariUK shows it on the Mondial T, anyway...

The good news is that it must not require the removal of the entire transmission to replace if FOA could do R&R that seal in 2 hours.

Sure enough, there it is, in Tav 27 of the Parts Book. I looked at Tav 31, which shows the "control rod for gear box", and Tav 32, which shows all of the external linkage, and didn't see a seal. Good point for future reference.

    Glad your problem is fixed!

2 hours? That makes their rate $150 per hour. Is that the going rate these days? Not pointing a finger, but I am just curious. I thought shops charge around $100 per hour.

$300 LAYBOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a rip off.

$300 DOLLARS to change a $65 part. Then they wonder WHY dealerships are NOT spoken of highly. Fricken crooks.

I was looking for the OEM 360 flashlight. Should be around $58.00.

So, I contacted FofSF it was $72.00.

I then contacted Fof Las Vegas and they said $100.48.

So, again why are dealers not well liked?
