Car: 81 GTSi N. American. I am replacing the Pick-Up Sensors 1-4 / 5-8 and the Tac Sensor. Problem the old and new Marinelli SENS 8s are very different in their connections so I have to build new that wireloom that plugs into the main wiring harness. I am also gunna use shielded wire in this new loom as per an Indie Tech I know. Here you see the loom with the old-style connectors, 2 of the three new connectors (white and red) that will go on the new wire loom, and the two sensors, the original (tanish) and its new replacement (white). Image Unavailable, Please Login My QUESTION IS: Of the six wires in three pairs in the OLD Loom on the left, Which one of each pair is + 'Positive?' (I have looked all over the www, and the more I look, especially concerning the old-style connectors, the more confuseder I get. ) From top to bottom in the pic, the wire colors are: GREEN BLUE BLACK YELLOW RED w/BLACK Stripe RED If you would like to know, I am building new this loom using this shielded wire, again as suggested by the Pro I know who is currently unavailable to answer my question. From my mondial diagram, but think it will be the same for 308 GTSi Sensor 154 TDC 5/8 Green : Red + Blue : Black - Sensor 153 TDC 1/4 Black : Black - Yellow : Red + Sensor Engine speed pick-up Red/Black : Black - Red : Red +
Hi, a few years ago my notes for same car 1981 GTSi US: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Paul
Does anyone know exactly what type of connector this is? It’s similar to 2-pole flat connectors here in the US, but the length and pin diameters are different. I’d like to leave the factory harness intact and make an adapter for the Bosch EV1 connector on the new-style TDC sensors. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Some reason that you can't just cut the connectors and wiring off your old sensors to make the adapters? Those are typically known as "bullet connectors". Measure the outer diameter of the male pin -- say it's 4mm -- then do an internet search on "4mm bullet connector" (or whatever diameter it is). Don't know if you can find a similar molded 2-pin, but I'm sure that you can find individual male and female bullet terminals that would allow you to mate individual wires to the stock connector on the car harness side.
Of all the connectors out there, that particular bullet connector I've never been able to source. Could be an older NLA European style.
The new connectors are generically a male EV1 I think. They are common and all over the internet and every auto electrical supplier. The old style connector on the pickups is never coming back so no need to maintain the unmodified harness. I regularly just splice new connectors to the old harness. Colored electrical tape is pretty easy to get and you can color code them that way.
Do a Google Search for:"bullet style 2 pin connectors" and click on the "Images" button. What you see may not be the same size as what you have, but they look alike to me. Mike Flanagan
I’m sure that’ll work just fine, it just figured that if I had the opportunity to replace (rather than re-use) a 40+ year old connector then that’s what I’d prefer to do.
Unfortunately they are not. As Crall pointed out.. Snip snip and EV1 replace. Far superior of a connector and available everywhere around the world.
I would purchase the bare plug with new pins and purchase the correct crimp tool and install without any joints, it would then look factory and be a proper job.
