    International number - possibly Mexico.

    Probably either

-Fax machine trying to call you
-Someone in another country trying to dial their relative but not getting through

What do you hear when you answer the call?

Got one too with a number that has an extra digit. Didn't bother answering as it's probably some solicitation. Put your number on the do not call list and then scream at them if you decide to answer.

It's probably either a telemarketer or computer generated phone spam. With VoIP systems they can configure their system/phone to show anything for caller ID. Another example would be an "Anonymous" call.

Performing a *69 probably won't help either but can cost you a buck or two.

If your phone is routed through a VoIP system (Cisco, NorTel, ShoreTel, etc) the IPT admin can look at the call activity log file (or similar) to the determine the actual incoming call number.

Otherwise, call your provider to see if they can determine the number and have them block it.

I keep getting ones from a number that's missing a digit. ex: (123)456-789. Don't know how that happens, but that's what the caller ID said on my cell.

Sorry for the hijack, but... around 1990, a coworker who had not been in the US for long came to work with an outrageous phone bill. She asked me "Where is area code 900?" Uhhhh, Grace...
