I need professional help that I can only get here. Why does my Diablo 6.0 feel quicker over the Murcielago? Does anybody have road tests available? Is it my imagination?
it could just be u, if u want u can come down here and im sure i could take some time off work and drive them both.....hard.... fast so when can u be here? lol
well if you think of it the 6.0 is a less "refined" vehicle and the sense of speed is much more apparent. Its much like the E55 and say a S2000. The E55 is fast, but does so with out drama, the S2000 on the other hand is all about drama. As is the diablo. the murci is made under audi, while it still is a boot to drive its not as... raw as the diablo or countach for that matter. the diablo takes athletics to drive the murci no so much.
Time them. Get an inexpensive Gtech Pro (an accelerometer) that doesn't involve splicing into the ECU, just plugging into the cig lighter socket and mounting it to your windscreen by suction cups. Go to a long straight stretch with minimal or no traffic. Disused airfields are best. Get a 0 to 30 mph, 0 to 60 mph, 0 to 100 mph, 60 ft time, 1/8 mile time, 1/4 mile time and trap speed, average them over 3 runs for each car (discounting bogged launches, etc.) and you should have a great comparison between the cars. The Gtech is an accurate device (the reading is fairly "true"), but that doesn't even matter that much because you're going for precision in your comparison, and you're comparing averages of the runs. Remember, subjective impressions are usually worth exactly ...zero. Objective measurements are all important.
Here's an interesting fact. In the summer when the ambient temperature is around 85F, the highest g reading on the Murcie is .78g's. A few weeks ago with the temp at 45F still with great grip on the road surface, I pulled a .94. BTW we picked up the new ZO6 last night....red of course. It is one awsome car!

Wow that is beautiful Z06, enjoy it in good health. By the way, those last 6.0 Diablo's were real rockets. EVO Magazine I believe preferred those to the initial batch of Murcis...
cant wait to read the comparison between the Italians and the Z06. If you need another driver let me be th be first to volunteer.
no it happens to me to somedays when i drive my 512 i feel like im going 40 when im only going 20 its just that some old cars feel sleeker and more open wheeled than the newer ones
do you have any pics of your red 6.0? I've only seen yours and maybe 1 other one. Did they make very many in red or were they all special order?
It could be the sensation of the throttle response? Is one cable vs. throttle-by-wire? As a passenger, I felt the Diablo was more neck-snapping at take off, while maybe not faster overall. Maybe it was just a more aggressive driver. Diablo: wooden rollercoaster Murcielago: steel rollercoaster
Maybe the Diablo is noisier ... or perhaps it just has a shorter final drive ratio ... Or you can just say Italian V12 vs German V12
who really cares which is faster? not me, at the end of the day, cars like this are about putting a smile on your face. If one puts a bigger smile on your face then the other (whether its faster or not), then the car has succeeded. At the end of the day most of us are not Race Drivers, and do not race competetively, so minor differences are of no consequence. therefore IMO, whether the Diablo is faster or not, if it feels better, then thats all that matters. I would keep a 6.0 over a Murci any day, however if i could have both well thats good too.
I think it was EVO that independent tested the 6.0 in the 11.8 quarter mile and 0-60 in the 3.6 range. I think motor trend said it was the quickest timed car they had ever tested up to that point. There were several sub 11 tests with the 6.0 breaking in the 11.6 quarter mile in one of them. All of those times are equal or better than the murci. I think Mako has those specs and which magazines posted those numbers. So it is definitely possible for a good 6.0 to outrun the murci or even feel quicker. The 6.0 also tested about 5 Mph faster on top end. From my own experience I would say that they should be pretty much equal but you always have the "good car" factor. With cars that are that equal in 0-60, 1/4 mile times and 0-150, a good 6.0 could easily and very well be faster.
You can do better on the Gs. Once while flipping through the on board computer I saw 1.14g on my car. I had no idea I had done 1.14G. I couldnt remember when or where I pulled off such incredible acceleration. I can normally get 0.76g if i go WOT from 0-75. I kept trying to get a 1G+ number again but couldnt until I spoke with another murci owner ... If you keep your foot on it (and try this if you can get a safe open road or at the race track) and go WOT from 0-120+ mph you will get a reading of 1.14g or so. I know the biggest pull is from 50-80, but i can never get to 0.80g if I only go 80mph. Not sure why it reads like this if you keep it up until 100+mph. I doubt the car's acceleration grows after 80mph. I think it is just gives the computer more time to process info leading to a bigger #. So it is possible that you got 0.94 because one day you happened to keep it WOT a little longer ...
YOu know, there's a pretty nice red that's available on the Carrera GT as well. Enjoy the 'vette. Thinking about one as a daily, either that or a P car. (Not the CGT, of course).
Now that's funny...... Dave It's so hard to find real numbers, expecially on 0-60 because nobody in their right mind would drop the clutch in a Lambo from a dead start. The only comparision I could find was on the Lambo Registry, even they have conflicting info. Here's what they show for 0-100Km numbers: 4.7 - Diablo VT 3.9 - Diablo (early 2WD) 3.8 - 6.0 3.8 - Murci* - However on the same page, it shows 3.6?? I seriously don't think anyone here could tell the difference of 1/10 of a sec. I also think that no two hand built cars are alike... BTW - Congrats on the Z06 - very respectable performance.
