Hi this may seem like a silly questions but I have a new 360 coupe and I just installed a challenge grill. In the process of doing that I dropped a socket wrench tip into the engine bay and it fell down and landed in the black air diffuser under the car - it didn't fall through the engine bay like with most cars. It's in my garage and I'm scared to start it for fear for the socket tip getting stuck in anything. How can I get it out? Is there a way to get access to it?

Get a magnet and fish for it, or put the car on a jack, take the difuser off. By the way, how long did it take to put the grill on?

I suggest you get the latest craftsman rachets and extensions, they have locks which prevent the dropping of the sockets.

Yeah - I was in a rush and didn't have the right tools. Took me about an hour, maybe 2 with the right tools. 14 bolts and some pretty hard to reach. It's VERY EASY to drop something into the engine bay. You need to unbolt the lights from the inside and pull them out. Pretty involved - I thought it was just going to be a couple bolts and snap off, snapp on.
By the way, do you know how to take the diffuser off?

The diffuser is part of the rear bumper. And, I think there is a thread on Fchat on how to take it off. Should be pretty easy between two people.

It appears that you can gain some access from under the car if you undo the skrews from the under plate(diffuser?). There is also a plug 4" in diameter that looks like it could be removed too for limited access. That and the magnet should allow you to retrieve it.

    Hi 9software,

As others have described, I've had surprisingly good results retrieving "lost" tools by fishing about deep in the engine compartment with a telescoping magnet. Often as long as tip is "near" socket will draw up, especially with the larger magnets. Mine (craftsman) has become an indispensable member of my "Ferrari tools" drawer. Unfortunately not such good personal experiences with new "locking" craftsman socket extensions; usually I have to slide small latch to install socket but then can immediately pull off with light finger pressure. Nothing a good wrap of duct tape can't solve (smile!)

It is easy - I dropped a plstic lid down the same way and retrieved it no problem.
