Hope someone out there can help!! I just put a new Pioneer head unit in my 430 last night. The door speakers sound great, but I don't seem to be getting anything out of the subwoofers between the seat. I didn't have time to troubleshoot it yet, but I thought I would ask about the amplifier that is in the pocket under the radio - is this for the subwoofer only or does this handle the door speakers as well? I'm hoping its as simple as the amp isn't getting a turn on signal from the radio - if so I may have to adjust the pin placement on the harness. I currently have the remote turn-on wire from the radio connected to pin #5 on the A side of the factory harness which appeared to be correct based on the wiring diagram on my original Becker unit (Called Control Output for Automatic Antenna on the Becker unit). Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
If you are getting sound out of the front speakers then the amp is turning on. All speaker outputs are from there. The ASK amp has 4 outputs. The fronts of course control the door speakers and tag off to the pillar tweeters. The 2 rear outputs go to the one speaker between the seats since it's a dual voice coil. The other one is just a passive radiator. i would check your fading on the head unit and make sure you have that balanced. Also not running it as a 2 speaker output with a sub output turned on. Unless you are using the RCA outputs.
Thanks for the suggestions. I checked everything and I'm just barely getting sound out of the subwoofer. I put the factory Becker unit back in and really wasn't any better, so I'm thinking I either: 1. Have a bad subwoofer or wiring or 2. That's just the way it is. I'll have to listen to someone else's sub to confirm.
FYI- that sub is sub standard. I have 2 430's and it didn't work in either car. Just a crappy component. I did get to work in one and it was outputting a lot of distortion and crackles - disconnect & replaced it. Don't bother spending a lot of time, just buy a good replacement.
and what would be a good replacement for that speaker between the seats? how hard is it to replace on my own?
Last week I replaced my F430 subwoofers. They were completely destroyed, membrane holding the cone turned into multiple pieces of sticky paper. I used Pioneer TS-A1306C as replacements. Had to used Dremel tool to increase diameter of the subwoofer openings by about 3mm, and also increased the depth of the speakers metal ears to make them match the F430 threads for the screws that hold the speakers in place. Used rope caulk to get a good acoustic seal and avoid loosing the low end of the frequency response.
thanks for that. but is there a speaker that i could get that would not require any adjustments? ie, slip right into the given space?
my sub also sounds terrible. i was thinking of replacing it. I asked for a quote from the dealer. Do you think people at car toys or somewhere could figure it out or should i go to dealer?
