can any of you 430 challenge guys help me? i have just acquired a set of 430 challenge centre bolt wheels complete with centre bolts and hubs but the hubs have had their bearings removed. is this normal and safe ie. can the bearings be safely removed and refitted without any compromise to safety esp at high speeds? my intention is to fit these wheels on my 360 cs as i understand this will lighten the car significantly - are the 360 cs bearings same as the 430 challenge ones n is there anything else i shld be concerned about in putting on these wheels? sorry if all of this is too basic, im a technical ignoramus and my mechanic is simply not familiar with 430 challenge as there are none here in singapore( which is rhd).

    Hi,

As I own a 360 NGT and needed a spare set of wheels I was offered a 430 GT with central nut, but when I informed these dont fit on a 360 NGT (probably too wide). So I think you better can acquire a set of 360 NGT wheels and hubs (with the correct Brembo breaks also added). I think it should be safe to use these (but please let this be confirmed by a specialist).

    Good luck,

    ciao

am told by the seller of the wheels that it is quite normal and acceptable to split and separate the bearings n abs sensors from the resat of the wheel hub carrier and reattach n that this is commonly done eg. when u upgrade hubs to gt2. has anyone out there done or heard anything like this. im apprehensive to split and reattach the bearings as i do drive the car frequently at high speeds around 280kmh and am worried the bearings will not hold so well after taking them apart and reattaching. please help or therell be a set of unused 430 challenge wheels on the market very soon.sigh.

I would be very hesitant to buy any used 430C hub bearings, let alone one that has seen the ball bearings & ABS sensors removed then reinstalled on the hubs.

These hub bearings are fairly weak and lasts about only 1 race season based on my experience. We had 2 failures mid race season, so ended up replacing all four hubs on 3 cars. 12 hubs racked up quite a large bill. Another team also reported frequent 430C hub bearing failures.

On new bearings the outer hub fits to the inner half fairly tightly. Towards the end of the service life they become quite loose. And it's basically mandatory to check the tightness of the centre hub nut before car goes out on track for each session. If that hub nut comes off, you most likely will write off your car in a huge crash. I am talking about the hub center nut that secures the hub to the drive shaft, NOT the wheel center nut that secures the wheel to the hub. It seems when the hub bearing is worn and slightly loose there is enough torque caused by friction to unwind this hub nut even though it is punch staked to the drive shaft key way. Whereas the wheel center nut has two lockout tabs in the hub to prevent the wheel nut completely coming off the wheel.

360NGT and 430GT from Michelotto uses much bigger bearings and completely different hubs.

430C wheels should fit the 360CS as both have same size CCM brakes and both are 19" wheels. I believe 430 C hubs can be directly bolted on 360CS uprights without any mods, but I'm not 100% sure about this.

I am also not sure if the 430C ABS sensor plug is the same as the 360CS plug, so you better check that as well. Nor am I sure if these sensors are compatible between the two.

By the way, 360NGT and 430GT use 18" wheels and steel brake rotors.

    Good luck on your mod.
