I have a strange new chirp. It's not the alarm siren because that's out and unplugged. It's coming from the front but I can't tell if its under the dash or in the engine bay. It's a very short chirp every 40 seconds. It does it with the battery disconnected Anyone have any thoughts on what else makes a chirp? Soo.....onwards I figure what the hell; it ain't that hard to check out the alarm siren. Because I like to be prepared I already have a Corvette siren I bought maybe five years ago. So I plunge in. First take out the headlight. Lots of time and frustration spent dealing with all those locking connectors the anal retentive engineers at Maranello insist on using. Maybe in Europe there are gangs of bad guys who go around in the night unplugging things. I dunno??? Then there are the non-captive nuts that will drop into the oblivion of the under tray area. Finally Im able to carefully lift the headlight out and get to the alarm siren. More foolproof connectors and I have it in hand, or on the bench, as they say. Whats that, another chirp? That cant be, Im holding the siren in my hand and the battery is disconnected. What gives here? Time to go to fchat, maybe Taz has the answer, he usually does. Then the light comes on, everything is revealed .Its the garage smoke alarms battery going dead. You wanna know a truism about messing around with cars, especially Ferraris? Things dont go back together as easily as they came apart. Ferrraridriver is now licking his wounds both literally and figuratively over a glass of wine.
The crazy thing is we believe in the reliability of our Ferrari's so well they are always suspect. If you had a Lexus in your garage you would have looked at the smoke alarm. Once my Dad had a pager when my Mom was recovering from her broken hip. My Dad hears this random beep over a 1 week period. No one else hears it. He is ready to call a head shrinker. My youngest brother is over having dinner hears the beep a couple of times and does not say anything. Then he asks my Dad when he is going to change his pager battery...
Thing is yesterday I opened the trunk remotely without disarming the system and the alarm want off. I suspected the chirp was some kind of notification that something happened while the car was armed. I know there is such a notification I just couldn't remember what it was.
Enjoyed your Post Dave, thanks for sharing! As much as we may know, the obvious is too often overlooked. Speaking from experience ... Bill FL
You had an exercise in R&R the alarm siren, Dave. The next time, when it's really necessary, you'll be able to do it more quickly. Barry
