OK, so I found one 97 F355 Berlinetta that sounds fair. Red/tan, 31k miles, manual transmission, 2 owner car from New York, Auctioned from PA, currently located in NC, recently done 30k belt changes. "Supposely car is very clean and in tip top shape".

Here are the issues that I need you guys to help me with:

There are no prior service records besides the 30k belt change.
The car is located 2500 miles away from me $1800 to ship it to CA.
Don't know if the clutch have been replaced or not.
What's should the price be for a car like this?

    Thanks

    Robin

If it is the Sport Auto car, Talk to Steve Jones, he will give you the honest low down on this vehicle.
They are a class act dealership.

    Where's Steve Jones?

    They are a Lambo Dealer.
They used to own Foreign Cars Italia, a Ferrari Dealership in NC.
    they know their stuff.
    Good people

I was at SPortAuto yesterday and saw the car in question. Very nice indeed. I have bought several Ferraris from these guys and have no disappointments. Good luck!!

Hi! very exciting to hear this.

Did you notice if the front bumper was in good shape, I believe it has been resprayed. Any rust bubble spot on the rear pillar to the rear quarter panel?

    thanks

I didn't give her a super close inspection but those flaws would have jumped out to my attention if substantial. Darrel or Steve should be able to give you a live walkaround and point out any flaws. These guys are the straightest shooters I have ever dealt with. I bought my Boxer and Testarossa from them sight unseen - and would hesitate do it again!

One question, why the hell would you ship it??? It's a Ferrari man!!! 2500 miles sounds like a great road trip to me!!! Figure $300 for a one way ticket, $300 in hotels, $1000 in entertainment hehehehehehe.... and you still get to pocket $200 towards your CAPRISTO!!!

Trust me driving the 2500 miles trip have come across my mind. My only concern for the trip would be, where would I park the car at night, being a "New Ferrari" to me I would be really scared to leave the car out for the night?

The enclosed shipping charge was quoted to me $1800, and will probably take about 3 weeks.

A cross country drive is not that bad. I went out to LA with a friend, bought a BMW and did the trip in 38 hours drive time - total was about 72 hours. Best thing to do when you get your first Ferrari is DRIVE!!! Knock the new off of it and start enjoying!!!

    Robin,

I would happily volunteer to copilot for you on a cross country drive. Park the car outside, I can bring a waterproof car cover, but you can get one yourself. Or you can just connect the dots between motels with covered parking - usually big city to big city. Frankly I wouldn't bother and just do an "ironman" inside of 2 days, coast to coast.

Maybe we could get some other brothers to meet along the way for a relay trip!

All great ideas, I think the car cover idea would be very realistic.

    Thanks guys

Does this mean we're going? :p

BTW, I thought delivery was $900 - $1100 coast to coast.

In this case, assume the worst, such as needing an immediate major service, but after our drive across the land. :D

I'd factor in about $4500 for that. If you feel it's right (and I would) you can reserve more for the inevitable valve guide replacement.

+1. Bought my 328 there, and it has been a very good car.

I would say if you're serious you should fly out there and have a look. I bought mine sight unseen and ending up fixing some cosmetic imperfections. I wasn't misled about anything, but if you're a perfectionist you'll always find something...

I think somewhere in the $70K range is OK. You need to know when the last major service was performed -- not just the 'belt change'. It's probably a $7K service with incidentals.

Also you'll want to know if the valve guides were updated, and the manifold replaced (the OEM design tends to crack). These aren't inexpensive.
