Please excuse my ignorance, but can anyone tell me or explain exactly where I must drill out the shock to release the pressure? When I look at the bumper shock, I notice that there is a base to the shock and also a smaller diameter sleeve that compresses into this base. Do I drill into the smaller diameter tube or the base? And is it possible to conduct this alteration with the front bumper still attached to the vehicle? Thanks for your time.

The larger diameter is the one you drill. I did it on the car and regret it because of the oil spill. It's no big deal to take them off and drain the oil and also I tapped mine in two places so that when the bumper is pushed in ,to the desired distance, I can tighten the set screws so it will remain where I want it. If you were to pin it in place you would gain a little more protection but the chances of the bumper matching another is remote. Lost

Measure the distance you want to push in the bumper on each side. Scribe each piston accordingly. Determine the orientation for the new through bolt so that it does not interfere when you reinstall the bumper shock. Remove bumper shock, drill small hole and drain oil, push in piston to scribe mark and drill through entire shock body and install grade 8 bolt with a locking nut. Worked for me.

Thanks to everyone who have replied with their expertise. It helped me out tremendously today. I've completed the task with amazing results. Sorry I did not take photos before the operation. But I will submit after photos later. I did not release the pressure on the rear bumper, only on the front. I just removed the metal add on's that are in between the shock and the actual bumper. I actually followed someone else's procedure that I found on this forum. Anyways, thanks again. Thank god for the Internet.

Actually, when I purchased my car years ago, I found the front bumpers had been pushed partially in and held in that positon with a large muffler clamp over the shock body. From the look of it, it had been that way for years. Several years later, I decided to push the bumper in futher and did the procedure as described above. BTW, when I released the old muffler clamps off the shocks, they resumed their original lenghts.

Oil spill? On my USA 308QV, all I heard was the hiss of air being released.

I bought a Spare set of Shocks,Trimed off the the rear just before the end casing.Once this was done the shock will butt up against the frame rail at the Radiator, doing away with the 17mm bolt.I then Shimed the U-bolt for a tight fit so the Shock will still compress in a Accident.Looks like a Euro now.Took all of about an hour to do.
