I know there were some minor changes made over the run. I have a few questions please.

1-Production cars were made from 1987-1992 correct? But I have read about some race cars being made after 1992....can someone explain?

2-Some cars had sliding windows, some crank....some had red door panels, some black. What years had which, or did it vary? I have seen both older and newer cars with either or.

3-Were there any other changes that could be seen over the production run besides what I have mentioned?

    Thanks!!!!

    1. Correct, although I believe there were not many F40s produced in 1987.
You are also correct about F40 racecars being built after production of the road car had ended. A logical explanation is that the F40 (at that time) was the ultimate Ferrari and very race orientated. Ferrari had already built a number of F40 LMs (Michelotto), although very few were actually raced, and continued with the F40 GTE. Those were raced in the 1995/96 BPR GT Championship.

2.There are two different door "types" on F40s: sliding windows with the red inner trim and roll-up windows with the dark carbonfiber inner trim. The very first batch of F40s were built with the sliding windows (1987/88). I guess around late 1988 the change was made to the roll-up windows configuration that was built until the end of production. However, there are many later cars known to have the sliding windows and red door trim. It varies.

    3.Yup: catalytic converters (late 1990).
Options were: non-synchromesh gearbox, Schedoni fitted luggage, adjustable suspension.

Here is a good starting point on F40s for you:
