Hey guys, Been doing my research for the past 6 months or so and looking for my perfect car (color and options). I recently came upon it and want your thoughts as this is my first Ferrari purchase. Own 2 Porsches and a Z06. It is a 2008 F430 spider from Scottsdale Ferrari with 6700 miles on it (See link below). They are asking $148 and I already have him down the standard 5% to $141k. I test drove it and have received the service records. This is where I would like your feedback. It was serviced in 11/14 at Las Vegas Ferrari when it had 3k miles on it. From the service record they performed the following: inspect blow-by system, inspect fuel emission control system including lines, connections and valves. Inspect F1 system oil level. inspect wear condition of breaking parts. inspect battery. Test air conditioning. replace pollen filter. Replace and bleed hydraulic steering fluid and replace engine coolant. In addition they replace melted rear marker light, added clear bra, and repaired leather on the drivers seat. Scottsdale Ferrari just serviced and performed diagnostics on the car and the report shows the following (6,700 miles): Performed inspection and service due; oil change, coolant flush, brake fluid flush, air filters replaced, drive belt (serpentine) replaced, gear oil service, wiper blades replaced and top off all other fluids. set all tires to 35psi with nitrogen and torqued wheels to 100NM. Then used Ferrari tested to reset all systems. The battery tested good (12.37V)& 763CCA/draw test passed 0.019mA(Good);replaced all 4 tires due to age; Note: clutch is at aprx. 17% worn / all 4 rotors are at aprx. 4% worn and the front and rear brake pads are aprx 10+mm Anything I should be concerned about in the above service records? What are your thoughts on price? Do I need a independent PPI if I get them to give me a CPO warranty? 2008 Used Ferrari 430 2dr Convertible Spider at Scottsdale Ferrari Serving Phoenix, AZ, IID 14333721 2008 Ferrari 430 Grigio Silverstone Nero Leather RWD 6 Speed F1 ~Red Brake Calipers ~Carboceramic Brake System ~Carbon Fiber Driving Zone ~Daytona Style Seats ~Power Seats ~iPod Connection ~Scuderia Ferrari Shields ~Rear Parking Sensors ~Leather Rear Bench ~HIFI Sound System w/Subwoofer ~Black Soft Top
What did the clutch read? What are the date codes on the tires? Get rid of rubber than is more than 3yrs old- first thing I did when I got my 2009
My $0.02 I would insist on Scottsdale Ferrari replacing the exhaust manifolds so you are starting with a new set, unless you are planning to change to aftermarket headers immediately. I'm not digging the look of the aftermarket radio either. I'd ask them to put in the Clarion/Ferrari head unit. Good luck with the purchase.
The two services you list look good, wear on clutch and CCM brakes look good... new tires... nothing not to like in that regards as far as I can tell. I doubt you'll get them to change the headers unless faulty - that makes no sense IMO. As a 2008 it should already have the MK2 headers, I believe. You can check with them. PPI and warranty is up to you - keep in mind that there are different levels of CPO warranty and not everything is covered.
They have the original radio, so I can decide to put it back in. I asked about the headers and they said the 08 had the new mk2 headers already. Thanks for the warranty comment. I will check what is covered to see if it is worth it.
My '08 has Mk2 headers and is currently at the dealer having them replaced due to failure. Luckily I am still within the 8 year warranty period. Mk2's fail too! That's why I suggested starting off with a fresh set.
Looks like it has been driven in the past year (more than 50% of its total mileage). I think that is probably a good thing as it should have exposed any issues from the previous 6 yrs of low mileage.
Yeah, but replacing a faulty set under emission warranty is one thing and on Ferrari's dime, replacing a good set "just because" customer wants to is on the dealership's dime and right out of their profit... Your tie-rods will fail to, so will the clutch, brakes, etc. eventually... Anyway, you can always ask, or perhaps use to further negotiate price down...
so I spoke with the service department and the service manager said: All 2008 F430s have the updated manifolds. No history of them being replaced under warranty, or the federal emission warranty. New manifolds were used from assembly# 74557 and on. This cars assembly# is 79628. To your point they are not going to replace them if nothing is wrong with them. Thanks for feedback and keep it coming, this is helping
It's the mounts. If they assure that the MK2 are ok then replace the mounts with the Capistro kit. bracket kit » 430 » Ferrari » Car Models » Capristo Automotive Yes the MK2 fail but because the mounts are faulty and transmit the stress in an inefficient manner. The Mk2 were more resistant to this stress but not the root cause. Otherwise sounds great. My 0.02 would be to go with the warranty - if you intend to drive it. If you intend to admire it only, no worries. I say this because as others note there will be stupid failures from sitting and age that use will promote. Full disclosure I did not buy the warranty on my F430 but it had been driven and sorted prior to my turn. good luck. And post pictures when you get it. ScottS
Directions with picture are near the front of your owners manual - I guess its finally time for you to read it !
These thread makes me laugh , it's has 6700 miles who cares about service record the thing its practically new . Other than headers issues it's meant to be driven. I bought 2 Ferraris with 40k+ each sight unseen ... I've had less issues from 60k+ 1999 360 then from my 09 Bimmer Negotiate the price and drive it .
I personally checked out at least 10 F430s that looked perfect in pics before purchasing mine. It's amazing what shows up when you scutinize some cars - including some real head scratchers (shrunken dashes, well- worn bolsters, cracked carbon fiber, creaky undercarrages, leaking shift actuators, loose door hinges...) on expensive "mint" 3000 mile cars. I'm glad your sight-unseen method has worked out for you and I can attribute it to either good luck on your part or a different set of metrics. Laugh all you want but I would never recommend your method to anyone I actually liked.
Thanks for all the help guys. I went back today and purchased the car. He came down some more and with all the service records I felt comfortable with the purchase. WHAT A CAR!!!! Loving it already!! The sound is intoxicating and man is it fun to drive. This is me driving her off the lot!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
True be told, I wouldn't recommend it either . I bought mi e from fellow F chatters. Strangely, a few year ago I was looking at 360/430 for a friend who wanted a low mile car . And every car we looked at was in equal or worse shape than my ,at time 58k mile car. Go figure ... We looked about 10 cars also . He settled for a car with 25k miles.
Day two and my face hurts from smiling so much. 430 much different than Porsche (Porsche smooth and refined) and z06 (lots of torque) but better in style ( I didn't realize how wide the car is) and the f1 transmission is great..don't miss manuak shifting at all..looking for excuses to drive it!!! Congratulations on your F430! I concur on the Z06, arguably one of the best engines ever with monstrous power everywhere, everyday usability, amazing gas mileage and oh what a sound while wide open. What I found disatisfying with the car is that I needed to flog it it to remind me why I bought it - otherwise it was just a creaky Corvette with lousy seats. The F430 feels special even when tooling around town.
