Data plate on my 308 indicates it was imported by Ferrari Compliance, Inc. I can not find anything on this business other than a mention of a company by this name in Santa Anna, CA. I do ot have original papers or date of import. Would like to rebuild that part of the history. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have a car with a very fuzzy history of the first owner. I just subscribed to the Ferrari Market Letter and sent in my car's info with a request for anything they know, that's the go-to answer. But I'm not holding my breath, 308s were generally poorly documented compared to more "prestigious" models. You could try that. Best of luck with your search.

By the way, that's an unusual looking door plate. Was there no standard for those at the time I wonder?

Yeah, I had the same thought when I saw it. Usually, they have black pre-printed format and the information is filled in the blanks with the struck letters and numbers. I've seen a lot of Ferrari door plates on 3x8s, but never one like that. I'm interested to see what the gurus make of that.

p.s. Did you run a Carfax on it?

My guess was it is a 308 that was converted for the US market. That is the kind of plate you see on them.

Is your car an '83? I'll look at mine tonight, pretty sure it doesn't look like that.
Although I too am missing my early documentation. Would love to know where it was originally imported etc....

For what it's worth, this is the door plate from my 84 Euro which was US converted. Also, just received some info from the Ferrari Market Letter that I didn't previously know, so thumbs up to giving that a shot.

I have seen several different plates over the years with euro spec cars. This is definitely one.

Unfortunately, all that is listed in Urban's book under the chassis number is that it's a Euro car.

It is either a VERY late 83 or a VERY early 84. All the other ones being built in front and behind it are a mix of 83 and 84 models.. For example, 44857 is an 84 Mondial and 44907 is an 84 308 but 44963 is an 83 308.

This car was built at the cross over point literally on the same line on the same day.

    Put a picture up!

This confuses me, I have an 83 (euro german car) and I'm 46099. I can't seem to make sense of they're production numbers.

I love those wheels, but why in the world would someone switch to the US front yellow marker lights? Your VIN is definitely Euro which would be the narrow yellow ones. Well, guess it makes as much sense as the Toyota red markers on mine.

    Correction:

I went back and looked again and I think the 84 was just a typo in Urban's book. After I made the post I went for a run and was thinking about it a little more and realized that something was off with my guesswork. Sorry.

It's an 83 and well away from the 84 cross over. Actually it is closer to the last of the 82's than it is to the 84's.

    My mistake.

Some cars among the euro ones had and additionnal metal plate added by the importer, in the engine compartment at right, just besides the manufacturer's data plate.
All french cars sold by the historic french importer, Charles Pozzi in Levallois, in the Paris immediate suburbs, have an "Automobiles Ch. Pozzi" plate. The belgian ones got one from Francorchamps motors I believe.
