    Hi all,

I’m in the process of installing a York style AC compressor in my 308 GTS, and I’m hoping to get some advice or insights from those who have done this before.

The bottom bracket not aligning with compressor.

Can't put in this mounting bolt. Firewall in the way.

Should I install it together with timing belt cover? Should i install it with the top bracket already mounted to the timing belt cover? What is the best approach since it's unberably heavy and I have managed to make it in place, but can't get the bottom bracket to now line up, since I can't put in the rear bolt in the top mounting bracket.

I can't comment TOO much on this, wish I could.

I replaced mine with a tiny Sanden. But I will say I had the top bracket mounted to the cover for sure before I tried installing.

The bottom isn't needed for the smaller compressor.

It's been a couple of years since I messed with mine, but as I recall I bolted the top bracket to the timing cover, then inserted the compressor bolts into the bracket, then offered up the compressor while starting those bolts by hand (It was damned difficult). Then mounted the lower bracket.
My car had slotted shim washers between the brackets and timing cover to align the compressor pulley to the crank pulley. And possibly shim washers between the compressor and top bracket to adjust that distance.

I just did timing belts this summer. I don't now if it's year dependent but on my car (all original '85 QV, one owner) it does not have bolts at the top. It has studs (in the compressor) with metal sleeves that go through the rubber bushings in the top bracket. The top bracket is mounted to the timing cover before installing the compressor. There are washers on both sides of the bushings, between compressor and bracket and the top side nut and bush. The may also be a shim on the bottom. When properly installed, it should alien correctly with the lower bracket.Everything was as pictured below.

    No bolts on top!

3 studs on the top, 2 closest to the belt cover, 1 outboard top.

2 studs on bottom closest to the belt cover.

You need to shim the backets off of the cover to align the belt pulleys
