I'm not sure exactly how this happened. Basically, the throttle cable is so loose that you can press the gas pedal all the way and not actually open the throttle. The gas pedal kind of just flops around. The cable isn't broken--I can pull on one side of the cable and the other side will still react. But there's way too much slack in the cable.

This is what you see initially as you look at the pedal:

Note the slack in the cable I can grab with my fingers:

To take out the slack with the pedal, you have to push the pedal all the way down, which is easily done by hand w/o resistance:

And here's a shot of me taking out the slack by hand at the throttle arm:

    Any ideas for me? TIA!

The problem is not at either end, it must be somewhere in the middle. The outer sleeve of the cable must be attached firmly in place in the tubes. There is a tension adjust nut right under the air plenum. If any of that has come out, or the outer sleeve is broken, then you will have that floppy cable ends.

Same thing happened to my US QV about two years ago. It was a relatively simple fix with a new cable. I think, over time, the cable just stretched some.

To add - you CAN adjust the tension on the current cable, but not a whole lot, maybe 1/4 inch or so.

Update on this, I replaced the cable and all was well again. But after awhile the gas pedal became extremely difficult to push. Arrrggghhh. What am I missing here?

You need to check your work to see if things have shifted?

Second, you need to check and lube the throttle plate thingy

Throttle plate moves easily, has to be lube issue or maybe the sleeve is fighting with the cable.

Don't assume the throttle plate moves so it is smooth. You need to disconnect all cable to the throttle assembly, remove the spring, bushing and lube them. Then put them back.
