I had a little paint work done on my '80 308 and I removed the large black vent above the engine. Now I am having trouble lining up the wholes for reinstallation. Anyone have any experience or advice? Thanks!

My advice would be to purchase the same size aluminum rivets that held it in place prior to removal. Place one of those rivets through each existing hole but don't tighten, they are just in there to line up each hole. Start at the very back of decklid and then start securing with the rivet gun, work your way forward but continuously check that the rivets ( pins) you placed are still in place. Make sure you use aluminum or they will rust. Take your time .

You might need a pair of small vice grips so to pinch the grill against the metal slats of the decklid on the underside if it still gives you trouble staying in place as you work forward.

I have been considering having my deck lid repainted but the reinstallation of the grilles worries me. The rivet guns I've seen all seem too wide to fit into the slots. What have others used - name, manufacturer, P/N? Thanks in advance for guidance.

Clecos will work better as far as holding the panel in place, not sure they are really needed for this though.

You might be able to borrow a few at the local airport, look for the oldest "hanger rats" you can find, they will have hundreds of them. You will have to talk to them for a while though.
