Help with recent Ferrari purchase... Transporter issue

    So I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a beautiful CPO F12. Car is amazing, but there was minor damage to the paint that occurred during transport. It was well documented via photos, video and the bill of lading that there was no damage to the car upon pickup, however on delivery to me, I found an area of the lower front fender that had some paint rubbed off. The area is small and not very noticeable but I know its there. The only thing I can think of is possibly one of the shipping straps rubbed against the body during the transportation and over the thousands of miles travelled the damage was slowly done. The transport company has stepped up and promised to take care of everything to "make sure I'm happy". At this point I'm looking for advice on how to proceed.

    More than likely the transport company will want to use their insurance to cover the repair but I wanted to avoid going this route because I don't want the repair of what is essentially a scuff mark to create a blemish on the vehicle's carfax report.

    I could get estimates on a repair from a Ferrari body shop and just have the transportation company pay for it. The dealership is recommending I go this route and get an estimate on what it would cost to get it touched up.


    With either of these routes, I'd need to consider the impact of a respray or repair on the value of my car if or when it comes time to trade it in or sell it.

    Anyone with advice on how to proceed next?

    Ask your dealership if they have a spot repair company that they use when reconditioning their own pre-owned cars. Get a quote from them.

    This is all an assumption without photos

    And not knowing actual position of the mark and/or paint color.

    It sounds like it should be easy enough to addresss.

    I had the same situation with one of my Ferrari’s, my Scuderia was damaged on transport from California to Washington. Back fender had a cut in it, deep and about 1.5 inches long. Back fender had to be repainted. The paint job was covered by their insurance company and was never reported to any agencies and never showed up on any car fax type data bases...however I did continue the process after it was fixed to get a diminished value settlement which covered any loss of value if the paint job was discovered.     you'll want to keep it out of insurance for the reason your stated (possible report to carfax etc). Other than that, just get it fixed and enjoy the car. There are hundreds of ferraris and similar cars running around with minor paintwork for similar reasons, being low etc. resprayed front bumpers from rock chips and no one is the wiser including current owners. Obsessing about how this might effect resale is waste of time and energy IMO fix and move on.

    My dealership has a paint resto guy. I'd just take it there and send the transport company the bill.

    Question: Do you have the right to deny they use insurance?.....Not sure how that works exactly....and as Meister said, a minor issue should not have longstanding impact....it's not collision damage

    If the repair is that small, I would be surprised if a company wanted to go to their insurance.

    It’s going to hurt them as much as it would hurt the car for them to make a claim.

    Can you out right decline it, no, I do not think you can force someone to pay out of pocket when they have insurance for this exact thing.

    Something else to consider, is diminished value ....

    Again, I think it’s only worth it if it is a substantial repair ...
