Yes, I know it's not rubber. A few weeks ago, a cop - yes a cop - hit my Dino. The left rear tire of the cop car grazed my left front bumper. The resulting damage wasn't much. The biggest issue was that the urethane molded insert (rubber) on the bumper was ripped in two and I purchased new stuff from GT Car Parts.

It's the right product and everything. The problem we are having is getting the stuff to relax enough so it will fit properly around the sharp 100 degree corner of the bumper. You can see from the picture that it wants to gap where the radius of the curve is the tightest. Any ideas other than heat which we have already tired?

    Thanks

You could try strapping it to a similarly radius bend and leave it in the sun for a few days.

Maybe strap it to and even tighter radius so it is over bent and will wrap into the bumper better.

Try soaking the entire rubber piece in a tub of hot water for a period of time.

Didn't the factory cut little relief notches out of the rubber t slot where the corners are?
I can't recall for sure, but you may want to double check your old stuff.

I used the hot water method and it was ruddy difficult to do, in fact i ended up using a small amount of contact adhesive on the inside and wiped away the excess which gave reasonably good results.
However i think the real problem is that the modern "rubber" is more PVC than rubber and hence has a stiffer composition.
I like the idea of cutting the notches in the edges on the tight radius though.

I ask because the 206 and 246 "L" have narrow rubber with a channel that holds a metal strip (not supplied). You then put sheet metal screws through the bumper (from behind) which pulls the rubber tight, eliminating gaps.

If it is a later car, I've got no suggestions but wish you a heart felt, good luck!

    Cheers...Keith
