I have booked my family into Hotel Planet which is oposite to the ferrari factory. We go in the first week in August. From what i gather from people pissing on my parade, its not worth going to if you have not booked into a factory tour. All this coupeld with that Italy will be shutting down for August for holiday.
I am not part of any ferrari club or anything. And we are going to drive there in a 456:)
So my question is, what is there to do in Maranello? Are there public museums or displays going on. Is the whole trip a wast of time or is there good things for my family to see and do? Or should i just holiday some were else and not bother? What say you dudes.

You need to book the factory tour which over here is done through your dealer. Don't turn up on spec.

As to what to do the Ristorante Cavallino opposite the main gates is worth a visit both for the food and all the memorabilia on display.

How long will you be staying in Maranello? There's not much to do in Maranello but there are a few model/bookshops, the Galleria museum and some restoration shops. And there's Fiorano testtrack and factory gates where you can spot new Ferraris. I don't know if all this will shut down during the holidays though. I'm going to Maranello this week so I could ask around.

You could see all of the above in one day. It's not a big town. I'd suggest to go to Rome or Florence instead and if Maranello isn't shut down go for only one day there.

The resturant Montana has a lot of memorabila too and is where MS eats when in town. There is very little to do there. They have a factory merchandise store there too. If everyone is on holeday, I'm not sure what is open.

Yea we are already planning on the Lambo factory display also Ducati.
I am currently waiting for a contact to try and arrange a ferrari factory visit if pos in the first week in Aug.
Other than that several people have emailed me about the attractions in Maranello. The way Maranello is portrayed is that it is a ferrari town with ferrari goings on. So fingers crossed either way.

I will be taking the factory tour on July 4...ironically, staying at the Hotel Planet also. I'll send you a trip report when I get back. :)

You don't have to book a factory tour just to go to Maranello and enjoy yourself!!

We've been to Maranello many times (were there for San Marino GP race last month - we really like Italy) and always make a return visit to the Ferrari Store, visit to Galleria (opening hours 30 May-30 Sept are every day 9.30am - 7 pm - 12 Euro adults;8 Euro kids), visit Warm Up (on corner by Galleria parking lot); F1 Shopping and others for models, eat at Montana (Rosella's food is to die for), go to Maranello Cafe for expresso late night, have found a fantastic restaurant about 7 km out of Maranello. Had dinner there with two of our good Ferrari employee friends - La Noce - best speak Italian - chef recommended dinner was absolutely fantastic - got a private tour of their balsamic vinegar production after dinner. Our friends from London were there also and we had dinner at their hotel - wonderful hotel and restaurant - La Locanda del Mulino. We almost always stay at the BW Domus in Maranello - we've stayed at the Hotel Planet before in conjunction with an Owner's factory tour a couple years ago - nice place we had a room with a view to die for. Take a trip south and you can visit the track and park at Iomla (might catch some 360's or 430's running there) and good too is to go to San Marino - not only duty free shopping in the castle peaks but most places discount in addition - wonderful restaurant at top of steps near the cathederal with a view of San Marino and Adriatic sea - pizza is excellent. Must do is the Maranello Rosso Museum in San Marino - if you are interested in Ferrari history (Enzo and cars) this is the place. Go into old town Modena - it's neat too - the statue Pierro did as a tribute to his father will capture your attention for quite a while (same statue adorned with history is adjacent to City Hall in Maranello). We also found a really neat restaurant off the beaten path out of Imola on SS9 towards Bologna that definitely serves excellent food and an ample supply of Prosecco- it's where the MotoGP guys go. I could go on and on about the area and how neat it really is! We always rent a car so we can enjoy the freedom to see and do whatever we want and besides it's great joy to see the white circle with black double lines on the autostrada. Another thought is to visit the Alfa museum in Arese outside Milan - just about 1.5 hours north on A1.

    Enjoy your trip in August.

    Ciao,
    Carol
