Ok, to my 348 brothers, I finaly received my new decklid struts. I did the first one the driver's side and no sweat and no problem, then did the passenger side, remember this is in the engine compartment/rear decklid and this side is a little more difficult due a fuel line (I think) that is attached to the valve cover. This is where I droped a wrench. So am thinking, it's on the floor, I look down and no it's not. At this point am asking myself, do I even dare and start the car? Where can it be? Any idea's where it my of landed or what I should do next...

Albert, just take your time. If you can, look for it in the daylight with the car out of the garage. Use one of those retracting dental mirrors that you can get at any auto parts store to look in areas that you can't clearly see. If need be jack up the car and look from the bottom up. A wrench is relatively large, keep digging you'll find it.

There is a rectangular shield that covers the area in front of the engine. That is where it is hung up. The timing belts are completely covered, so don't worry about it being in there.

You have to jack the car up and remove it. It is the same shield that comes down when draining the engine oil.

    I am not alone!

I did the same thing about a month ago. Dropped the wrench & it didnt hit the ground. I scraped my hand up trying to find it back there somewhere. It landed on a metal cover bolted to the frame under the engine belts. I could see the wrench inside the slats. I just took off the bolt on one corner & lightly pulled it down & used a screwdriver to slide it out.

    Good luck on your hunt

Ok, went and bought one of those automotive magnets, flexible kind. I kept digging in there and came up short/empty. This weekends first project, jack the 348 up. Once again, if any one has the best area underneath where to jack it up, please let me know. I can see myself doing it and saying "hey whats that green liquid?"

Well I must admit I was skeptical at first, spending $550 for a detail. However, it was worth every penny and then some. Especially the paint. My wife thought I got it repainted. It really looks incredible. Not something that you can really see in pics, but in person it is something else. Compared to what it was. Dave Freed is the nicest guy and loves what he does. It really shows.

if it got logged behind the timing belt cover towards the lower center,
is it possible it's down there by the crank wheel ?

which means you'll never get it out :(

To all my 348 brothers thanks for the info. GOT IT OUT, went under the car and got it with the magnet. Hey, Brent, I agree with you, David over at Premiere is the nicest guy, and has an amazing amount of knowledge on our cars. I still want to see it in person.
