Awesome! We're all pulling for you!
This thread is fantastic! I love seeing all the steps from start to finish, and wish I had the time, energy and tools to do jobs like this these days. I grew up working in my dad's auto parts store in Long Beach, CA (in the 1970s), selling parts for and occasionally working on all kinds of domestic and foreign cars. But this looks a lot more complicated than pulling and rebuilding the engine in a Datsun 510, Toyota Corolla or Triumph Spitfire. Like others, I cannot wait to hear the roar of the rebuilt engine!
Well, didn't get there today. But good progress. Too many little things popped up and ran out of time. Those darned EGR valves and throttle bodies take a while to get all the wiring just right. I think tomorrow it is going to happen! Also, got my stock wheels back (with winter tires on) and will order Challenge 599 rims if and when this puppy fires up for my summer rims! Enjoy the incremental pics and I am hopeful for ignition tomorrow! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Initial startup truly deserves the best audio / visual equipment you have at your disposal. This moment needs to be preserved. Congratulations! Will be checking this thread throughout the day
And, oh, it is going to be loud! I plan to start it up with only the headers/cats installed. After a successful start I will install the rest of the exhaust.
Don't worry - the cats muffle a lot, you will be surprised how quiet it is. Please get all the video with sound you can!! Thank you and wishing you the best of luck!!
Just got my replacement BMC air filters shipped in overnight. Apparently they changed the design in 2007 (with the updated Motronic?) and I needed the earlier ones. Pop these in, do some idiot checks, fasten a few more wires (O2 sensors), fill with coolant and turn the key!
Where's that popcorn smiley when I need it?? You clearly know what you're doing, but best of luck anyway!! Hope it fires up first time!!
Dammit. Another delay. Went to fill the car with coolant and got a drip from the water pump (wasn't leaking before I tore down the motor). So new pump will arrive at my house tomorrow am. Will try the start tomorrow!
Frustrating but not entirely surprising. It is a Ferrari after all. Once you've got it running you'll miss all the fun you're having now.
Well, it IS a 12 cylinder Ferrari....the Datsun 510 mentioned by another poster woulda been done in a couple of days... Hang in there. We're lighting candles, burning incense and making obeisance to the V 12 gods on your behalf. May even sacrifice a virgin... Can't wait to hear this puppy alive again...
UPS hates me... Water pump won't be here this morning due to severe weather delays. So, tomorrow. Ugh! Instead I am having the car professionally touched up today and will tie up the undercar electrical and install the exhaust system. Some of my wheel well panels need repair so I can attend to that too. Will post some pics.
Exhaust all in except rear boxes. All wires now connected and perfectly routed. Hood back on. Was lazy on pics today. Tomorrow UPS either burns to the ground or my water pump arrives and this pig gets tested! Other bits: PDR guy came back to adjust one repair. Detail guy came to touch up but said he wants the car for a day and will touch up everything in his shop and make it look new! That sounds good to me. Will have to wait a couple weeks on that due to travel and the need to finish up some electrics in the trunk (embedded radar, back-up cam, etc.). Stay tuned. Sorry for all the pump fakes!
