Thanks. You know, as much as I love putting around in an old 911, the difference in wheelbase alone shows why I prefer driving the newer version.

But what do I know? Ten years ago, I passed on a 2-condition 1964 365SC for $18K because it felt like I was driving a VW bug.

But you know what? Even if I had the chance to buy that same car today for $18k, I would pass. Nostalgia, like acting out sexual fantasies, is overrated.

The vintage one is just leagues better esthetically. Interior included.

Sorry, I meant track. Driving an old 911 at 8/10's is a hoot. Going beyond that is insane.

Today must be my day to be a contrarian......
Much as I like and (more importantly) respect the original design, my choice would be for the new one. To each their own choice. A million different reasons to choose either, none of which are better or worse, just different.

On a (less?) argumentative point, when I first saw the front & rear comparison last week I really thought (think?) there must be a bit of photoshopping going on, or perhaps just a really specific lens choice.....whatever, the differences are quite amazing.

It would be interesting to see the same comparison with the late 80's Testarosa and the 50's one. I am sure many people would prefer the newer one but the money Is defenatly with the older one.

Not sure there's really a comparison. The '50s car was a pure competition machine -- Ferrari just slapped the name on a road car for marketing. Ditto the Mondial and 599 GTO versus the original.

And you can still have your 911 with 3 pedals! I can't say that about my newer F cars. Yes, I'm one of those guys

that would be an interesting comparison, the percentage differences in average height and weight for Americans in 1964 vs today and length/width and weight of the 911s from the same era.

or any other car, for that matter.

    Thanks for posting these.

I think they are great. Both cars are beautiful. They had a wonderful outline at the Porsche museum on a wall showing the growth of the size of cars.

Just depends on your favorite flavor. I like the smaller cars, but in my opinion, you have to "want" to drive them. You just don't hop in and go just anywhere. Not the case with the bigger car.

    Perfect timing!

Last night I was staring at my garage wondering how to get another 911 in there alongside the GT3. These pics tell me the 69 911s I got the hots for might just squeeze in.

But the motorcycles are going to have to move into the foyer : /
