Not a bubble IMO (not at this stage anyway).

Apart from the appeal of an analogue driving experience, they are solid, reliable and relatively low maintenance sports cars - cars most people can achieve in their life.
Old Ferrari's hold their own, but old 911s offers an extremely broad appeal that attracts a lot more buyers.

I don't think every aircooled 911 is an investment, but if you can own a well sorted car that you actually plan on using, I'm not sure there are safer bets for a depreciation free ownership.
Just buy them and drive them! That's the essence of an aircooled 911.

I know I am now an old fart when I see people talking about cars I was driving when they were still crawling and sucking their thumbs.

Agree. There are relatively few vintage-feeling sports cars that will get you there and back dependably, in style and with a bit of fun, and the air-cooled 911s are all that.

(Although I'd say the 328 is somewhere on that list as the last reliable, analogue Ferrari...)

356 values have done well for some of the same reasons. There aren't many '50s and '60s sports cars that are reliable enough to actually drive today on a regular basis, and pretty easy to maintain. That appeals to a lot of buyers, including investors and enthusiasts.

Depends on which 911 you are talking about. Pre 3.2 Carrera are really expensive and are not rare (RS and RSR excepted). I have seen prices going from $50k to $250k+. They are nice cars but as said, not rare.

But then, a MB Pagode is now $150k, Etype are also $150k..So the question is the same for all these vintage cars and not just the 911.

They are great cars to own, there are more expensive cars out there but nothing provides the power, driving pleasure and style of a 911. The older they are the more appealing, I find the models to be most appealing to me are the Turbo 3.6 and 993 Turbo. The last real 911's are the 964's, they are the last ones that were hand built from what I gather.

There is no question they are just tops when it comes to street 'cool'. I have owned a boatload of amazing cars, but me and literally all my friends and colleagues remember THIS car as the one we all miss, identified with, and just overall brought the most nods of appreciation. A 'simple' (ok, modded too) 2.0 '66 911. Raw beauty.

I daily drove it from about age 22-32....GOOD years of my youth, many fond memories with that little Porsche playing a role for sure :)

I have owned seven aircooled Porsches from '78 to '95, all purchased used and all owned virtually for free. After ~3 years from new, the depreciation curve flattens, then paces inflation...
