I have a job offer in Baton Rouge. So I'm wondering what the area is like. I have only passed through and visited a couple of times. Anyone care to share your thoughts as I consider a semi-relocation from the MS coast. Will I love it or hate it? Things to do? Points to consider?

    Thanks in advance.

I never lived in BR, but did live South of it for a while. We visited there often. Like anywhere else, there are good and bad places. I'm from the Coast and still own a home there. Just be careful of LA people like 4RENUT. Those coonasses are crazy! ;)

    Chad,

Ignore PP; he's still mad that I know how to spell and he doesn't.

I don't live in BR but travel there frequently for work and sometimes for play.

My colleagues that live there enjoy it though the traffic has gotten worse post-Katrina b/c of the population increase. Also, there is a lot of interstate and related construction underway, which I see as a positive, that is causing some (hopefully) short term issues. Keep in mind this depends on where you live and work; you might not be impacted.

The riverfront has become well-developed and there are plenty of things to do downtown without the craziness of New Orleans.

For family fun we like the go carts and the water/amusement park.

Hope this helps; if not you got what you paid for. :D

    PP,

May your Diamondhead estate get confiscated by the DEA! :p

yes, Baton Rouge traffic is crazy. I hate driving there. Have to go to BR tomorrow morning for work and not looking forward to it. I don't know much about it socially but it seems like it might be nice to live there.

Traffic is definitely interesting. I-12 at Sherwood just comes to a screeching halt, as I learned yesterday at about 5:30pm!

Researching a place to stay is a bit difficult at this stage because I am not familiar with the area. I intend to maintain my home on the coast and get a place to crash in BR, if this all works out.

But...final meeting happened yesterday, so I expect an offer on the table by next week. We'll see.

    Thanks for the input!
