I think I will be looking for a 77ish 308 when the right time comes (hopefully within 2 years). I told my self about a year ago I will have a ferrari by the time I am 25.

I would like to know of any recources to start reading up on and any books you guys can recomend. I will defiantly have my homework done before pulling the trigger on buying my first f -car. although it may be a little ways away, I need to start saving and reading and looking now. thanks for any help, Ill be visiting here more frequently now :)

Welcome Chris! I think you will find that this site is in fact better than any book, but the books are good to have too...you need SOMETHING to read when the internet is acting up.

If you are not concerned about having the most desirable year or color, you can get a very good deal on a 308 by hunting around. (For example, the 2 valve injected cars can be bargains). But learn the ins and outs of buying one and what to look for so you don't end up with an expensive rehab job. Do some searches and read up here...all the info is here and you can be an expert in short order.

Also, most Fchatters are friendly, helpful people. Post something in the region where you live and see if you can find a local Fchatter that will show you his 308 and what to look for in buying one.

There is nothing like a 308!! You will love it.

    Best of luck

Welcome and though I agree that this site has better information than any book but for someone who wants to know about Ferrari V8 ie.308 then the best book is 'Original Ferrari V8' by Keith Bluemel. You will find everything you need to know about 308.

I always told myself I would have a Ferrari ... someday!!! Got one at 30 years and 2 months old.

    308 all the way.

I recenlty saw a 308GT4 up close. All these years I was never really taken by them...now I want one BAD. Need to scrape together $20k or so for a great one (do I need more than that?). I thought a 330 GT 2+2 or a 365 GTC/4 would be my next Ferrari (in many, many years). But I want a GT4 to be next...and with my baby coming next week, I can appreciate the value of the GT4s. Did they make the GT4s in a TDF type blue? I have a ref QV and want a blue or silver Ferrari next.

Sorry to run on so much...good luck with following your dream. Make sure you have money for service after the purchase. I do NO work on mine and spend on average $2000 per year ($0.00 the first year, $7000 the second year...so there are better years than others).

Well I am pretty handy with a wrench. If it went together, it can come apart and be fixed is how I see it. Im pretty mechanically inclined, and you should be able to buy a GT4 for under 15K I would think. And being they are not that "collectable" paint it TDF Blue :)

I love the GT4's especially with boxer paint !

I bought my 308 one month after turning 30.

Forza magazine and Cavallino are good to get to, just helps keep the inspiration up ! about 20.00 for a year of Forza. and about 40.00 for Cavallino, expensive but worth it.

If you can ever find it, the Ferrari by Pininfarina book is the best book on Ferrari I have seen it's about 400 pages and shows the design of each car including pencil schetches, you can find it used on the net.

    Gil,
I hear ya! GT4's never did much for me in pictures. When i saw one in person I was like "WHOA!!! That's cool!" Now I want one too. But for my second Ferrari I bought a Mondial...better back seat room. The baby seat fits right in there!! Of course, now that we have a Mondial, my daughter prefers the 308 because she can sit in the front.

The problem for me with the Mondial is there are too many choices...that is, they changed over the years, and I always like the best of the bunch, so that means a newer one and more money. The GT4 had no styling changes during it's run. I hear the later ones are better, but they look the same to me.

My mechanic told me that Ferrari told dealers to change any remaining Dino 308 GT4s to Ferrari badging and actually showed pics of how to do it. I think I want an original Dino, but not sure yet.

I am still into originality, so whatever color GT4 I would get, that's the color I would repaint it. Since I have plenty of time, though, I want to wait for EXACTLY what I want...pristine (ok, great condition...don't care if it's not concours condition) GT4 in silver or blue.

I set a goal at about 13 years old to have one by my 30th birthday and I was 2 months late. look around for part prices. they can vary a bit and a penny saved is a water pump earned.... well, on the way to it.
